Are you ready for a week of discovering deeper, clearer views of what is real? Especially if those views include things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous, harmonious, healthy and of "good report?" (B-3) We gain these views of reality as we see through the eyes of the Christ--cherishing all human conditions and environments as glimpses of divine reality. And that is exactly what the Christian Science Bible Lesson for this week offers you.
But why "Reality?" In 1898 Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, chose 26 topics for weekly Bible Lessons. The Christian Science Journal for July 1899 includes this statement: "The subjects for these sermons, as is quite well known, were furnished by our Leader. As has been observed, they follow the order she was wont to employ in teaching her classes." She chose 26 subjects that would be studied during the week and be read as the Sermon on Sunday. Each topic would then be studied twice a year. And when studied and practiced during the week the result was not only a deeper understanding of the individual topic, but also a more demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science. And Mrs. Eddy did place great significance on these Bible Lessons. She writes of the Bible Lesson "a lesson on which the prosperity of Christian Science largely depends." Church Manual, Page 31.
So as we dig into this week's lesson we might ask ourselves, "What did Mary Baker Eddy want me to know about reality?" And, "Why did she think it important to the prosperity of Christian Science?" And, "Could it be that my individual prosperity will support the prosperity of Christian Science, in fact the prosperity of Christian Science might really depend on my prosperity?"
Reality, hmmm? I found this definition of "reality" on Wikipedia, the free internet encyclopedia. "Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or may be thought to be. In its widest definition, reality includes everything that is and has been, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible."
So where are you going to look for "the state of things as they actually exist?" "Reality TV"? News reports? The latest best-seller? What the neighbor tells you? Well, I think you have made a very wise choice in looking to the Christian Science Bible Lesson.
Golden Text (GT): I like where the Golden Text from Ecclesiastes tells us to start: "Consider the work of God:" KJV, or how about these versions: New Living Translation, ""Notice the way God does things;" and New International Version, "Consider what God has done:"
[I love the definition of work as "love made visible" or brought into view.]
So "The View" we will be tuning into is not a morning TV talk show (ABC) -- but a daily showing of what divine Love has done and is doing. We will discover what is really going on, as we pay attention and discover that reality is 100 percent spiritual.
Responsive Reading (RR): These introductory ideas lead us to the heart of the Lesson.
Section 1: Reality is entirely spiritual. Beyond material limits.
Bible verses (B-1) - (B-3) make it quite clear that God and God's works are the reality we are seeking. It is a view that is more than breathtaking; it is breath-restoring, health-restoring, harmony-restoring. As the Apostle Paul writes, "For in him we live and move and have our being." We begin to see the necessity of looking to God to find what is really going on.
The radicalness of Mary Baker Eddy's view of reality is often mind-boggling to the human mind. But when approached with an open willingness to seek this view, and learn of its Science, the effect in human experience is revolutionary, and often results in healing. These healings cause "the excuses for ignorance" (Marginal Heading for S-4) to yield to an ever-growing conviction of spiritual reality as All.
Here's a little example from my family. When my mom and dad had been married only a few years, my dad had a healing that began to open his eyes to a life beyond what matter tells us is reality. He was working collecting his insurance debit when he fell through the wooden boards on a client's front porch. He was working with another insurance agent that day, and with this man's help he was able to get back in the car and drive home. He arrived home just before lunch and from appearances he had broken his leg. My mom asked if he would like her to call a Christian Science practitioner. He agreed. After lunch he took a little nap, and when he woke up he came out and announced he was going back to work. He headed back to the debit. The fellow he had been working with could not believe his eyes. "Well, I guess it wasn't broken after all." That's what they both agreed. And when Dad got home he announced this view, "You know my leg couldn't have been broken, probably just sprained." My mom made no comment.
Just a short time after this experience my dad volunteered for service in World War 2. He had to go through an extensive physical examination. He was given a perfect bill of health, but one of the doctors showed him an X-ray and said, "Well I see you had quite a break in your leg, but it is perfectly healed and probably stronger than the other one!" My dad had a lot to think about. He told me that as he rode the troop transport across the Pacific Ocean heading for the Philippines he began to read a copy of Science and Health that mom had given him. Being healed of a broken leg in a couple hours sure might make you want to learn a little more about spiritual reality! My brothers and sister and I always regarded Dad as a remarkable man, but I am not sure we really ever realized how open and receptive he was to the remarkable reality that Christian Science had brought into his experience.

"It is unwise to doubt if reality is in perfect harmony with God, divine Principle, if Science, when understood and demonstrated, will destroy all discord, --since you admit that God is omnipotent; for from this premise it follows that good and its sweet concords have all power." (S-4) Science and Health, page 130
Section 2: Elisha and the poisonous stew made harmless: a miracle? or reality made evident?
In citation (B-4) 2 Kings 4 we are told of Elisha and some of his apprentice prophets preparing a pot of stew. One of the young men by mistake adds some wild gourds to the stew that appear to be poisonous. A disastrous, deadly mistake? "O thou man of God, there is death in the pot." Elisha asks for some "meal" to be added and the stew is rendered harmless. In the "My Bible Lesson" published by the Mother Church an idea of how to think metaphysically about the "meal" Elisha added is given in the acronym: " (M)ore (E)nlightenment (A)nd (L)ove."
Romans 8 tells us that "all things work together for good." (B-5) Even a mistake can become a blessing for "those that love God," that love reality coming to light. The Science and Health citations in this section equip us to handle, "contamination" (S-5), "error" (mistake) (S-6), "inharmony" (S-9)
How grateful that young prophet in training must have been when his deadly mistake was immediately corrected by Elisha's higher knowledge of reality? I know I was grateful beyond words when I witnessed a similar healing. Years ago I was using some recently acquired mushroom-gathering skills to add to a family meal. I thought I knew what I was doing, but I evidently made a mistake. Part of the menu for the meal I prepared for my mother, my brother, his wife, and myself was wild mushrooms. About an hour after our meal together I took a phone call, my sister-in-law was in extreme agony and my brother was driving her to the hospital. It appeared the mushrooms were poisonous. I was not feeling well either, and the report seemed to accentuate the problem. When I told my mom of the call, she immediately began to pray. During the 16 mile drive into town my sister-in-law changed her mind and asked my brother to take her not to the hospital, but to "mom's" house. Also during that time I received a telephone call from someone considering suicide. She wanted help. She was the mother of two children I picked up each week for Sunday School. I spoke with her about the truth of God's love for her and her relationship to God. After some time she assured me all was well; and she knew all was well; and she was no longer tempted to take her own life. I hung up the phone and realized that I was healed, no discomfort whatsoever. Thinking of the reality of her Life, had lifted me from the belief of illness.
When my brother arrived, my sister-in-law was in great distress. We took her into my mom's bedroom and made her as comfortable as possible. We were all acknowledging God's healing presence. And in the middle of what appeared to be terrible symptoms, I heard my sister-in-law say, "Mom, this is my first Christian Science healing." And in a short while after that statement she went peacefully to sleep. She slept comfortably till morning, got up, got dressed and went to work.
Interesting thing about the reality of this situation was healing made evident in so many ways. My mom and brother were basically untroubled by the mistake of "death in the pot." I was freed as I sought to help someone in need. And my sister-in-law saw the reality of healing even before it was physically seen as the fact.
[What a blessing that these same truths in this section and in this Stewart family healing apply to neutralize and render harmless the radioactive "contamination" (S-5) so feared as the result of recent explosions and meltdowns in some of Japan Electric's nuclear reactors. What a good time to remember and share God work, or convincing proofs, for you and your family. "If Christian Science reiterates St. Paul's teaching, we, as Christian Scientists, should give to the world convincing proof of the validity of this scientific statement of being. Having perceived, in advance of others, this scientific fact, we owe to ourselves and to the world a struggle for its demonstration."(Retrospection and Introspection, p. 93:22) Dr. William Frederick Underwood and his daughter, Nancy Kiefer were Christian Scientists who struggled for the demonstration of the scientific statement of being and gave convincing proofs of it to Dr. Albert Einstein. "Fifteen engineers, chemists and physicists on Dr. Underwood's team at the Manhattan Project were accidently exposed to nuclear radiation and all died within one to three years after exposure. Although Underwood was also exposed to radiation poison - far more than the others - he was healed through prayer, even though all his organs had begun to bleed and deteriorate, and a neurodegenerative condition had set in. Any scars from this experience also disappeared.... His daughter, Nancy Kiefer, was also healed (by prayer) of nuclear radiation exposure. ...Einstein had witnessed - and acknowledged - several healings accomplished by prayer alone, including a broken arm and leg of Underwood's daughter, Nancy. Two and one-half hours after the accident, she came walking to the dinner table ... then ate with the "broken" hand! Einstein acknowledged ... a broken hip sustained by Dr. Underwood, and healed by prayer alone, in three days." No wonder Einstein studied Christian Science and commented that the Scientific Statement of Being was "The most profound statement ever uttered by mankind." Section 3: Hezekiah, sick, sorrowful, and saved.
(B-6) Psalm 103 Who's the healer? God, you're the healer. God forgives all sins and heals all diseases. This Psalm of David appears to be written later in his life. One commentator called it the "Mount Everest" of praise psalms.
(B-7) Isaiah 38 Wow, I kind of shivered when I read Isaiah's instructions to Hezekiah, "Set thine house in order:" What a recipe for healing, house cleaning! I am still working on that one, but praying for compliance. But something special to remember, Hezekiah got right with God, and Hezekiah was healed and saved from death. And then he wrote a beautiful poem acknowledging how low he was and how God had delivered him from death. (B-7) "O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live."
I have thought a lot in recent days about this command, "Set thine house in order." Disorder and chaos often seem to be the cause of sickness, but a messy house? Well, there have been times I realized I needed to establish a better sense of order (sometimes seems a terminal affliction :-) but I do remember that "with God all things are possible." But isn't our house our thought, our consciousness? So what is the primary "ordering" we need? Isn't it remembering to put God first? Or as it says in Proverbs, "in all thy ways acknowledge him." Remembering God in all that we do, putting thoughts of Love, Truth, Principle, first and then not needing to worry about fear, doubt, or personal sense.
Citations (S-11) to (S-15) are a real prescription for harmony and order. A willingness to "forsake" discord. That sounds like a conscious effort to me. By "lifting thought above error," and realizing that "all things are possible to God."
I have "re-found" or "rediscovered" some of my most cherished things as I straightened things up a bit. I have also at times bitterly regretted what may have been lost or destroyed through allowing trash to obscure treasure!! This has often forced a learning of what real treasures are. So the bottom line it seems to me is that it helps to keep first things first and to maintain at least a semblance of order in daily life. But always, always remember that God's gracious, ministering Love can lift us above all clouds of error, to reality. Don't condemn yourself; know yourself as God's reflection. (S-11) "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government."
Recently, Johann asked me about some inline skates. "Papa, have you found them yet?" They were hand-me-downs from his brother that would now be his size. I had hopes of finding them in our cellar, but if you looked at our cellar from the standpoint of daily reality, there really was no hope. Boxes upon boxes (they are still calling for sorting and ordering.) But I headed down to the cellar with a conviction that this was the day of salvation. After 15 or 20 minutes of prayerful searching, my faith was wavering. But then I stopped and turned "wholeheartedly" to God. I acknowledged His Mind as the only Mind. I stopped all condemnation. I stopped wasting time in condemning myself for letting things get in such a sorry state. And I listened. I heard a little message. Those skates weren't just stuck in some box. I had consciously put them in a shopping bag that held the skates and all the protection equipment. But where, oh where? I listened again. And I realized I knew where they were. I picked and fought my way to the furthest corner of the cellar, reached passed boxes, and in a moment of eager anticipation grasped a plastic bag. I knew what was inside, and I rejoiced in God's tender mercy and direction. It was the skates. I then knew even the terminal illness of "Messy-Rickitus" couldn't keep a right idea from its rightful place.
Section 4: Reality in action, Jesus sees through the Tempter's cloud of lies.
Citations (B-8 and B-9) make it clear who is in charge and in control. God is identified as ruling with power and might. God is great, powerful and glorious. When a so-called power apart from Good, God comes to tempt us, it can only come in the form of lies.
In citation (B-10) Jesus has just come from being baptized in the Jordan. (Matthew 3) He is filled with the Holy Ghost and has had the assurance that he was the beloved Son of God. He is now led "of the Spirit" into the desert, or wilderness. He fasts (does not eat, or eats little) for a long time, forty days and nights. Obviously he is hungry, we are even told that in Matt. 4:2. So he is tempted to use his understanding of God's Word to satisfy that hunger. But his answer to each of the three temptations comes from Scripture. When we have glimpsed something of God's all-power and see something of our ability in reflecting that power, what a temptation to let it be used to satisfy human needs! And isn't it helpful to us in our walk towards reality to know that our Savior, our Wayshower was also tempted? One of the subtle guises of the liar or tempter is when we are tempted to feel so bad about ourselves that we begin to think of ourselves not as God's beloved, but more of, "How could I think such a thing?" This is where the clarity and depth of Science and Health's citations (S-16) - (S-21) become such a clear defense.
In the summer of 1974 I was working on a special project of The Mother Church to renovate low-income housing near the Church Center. I was studying the Bible Lesson daily, had many, many wonderful healings, but was also pretty troubled with some of the quality of my thoughts at that time. Geoffrey Barrat from Australia was an Editor for the Periodicals. I seemed to really connect with his editorials, so I asked for an appointment to talk with him. As a complete stranger I sat down in front of him and in a few minutes felt like I had known him all my life. And I told him about my concerns. He simply said, "Rick, we all deal with that kind of temptation." Wow, you talk about a weight falling off my shoulders! You mean I wasn't the only Christian Scientist being tempted to think bad thoughts? Whew!! Here he was an Editor, a Christian Science teacher, and a healer, and he dealt with temptation also? Well, of course I can understand that now. But at the time, it was an incredible burden off my chest. I wasn't some kind of evil worm after all. As a matter of fact he helped me glimpse a little of the reality of who I really was, God's beloved child. And with the enlightenment from that conversation I was more ready to rise and resist the lies that tried to convince me otherwise. And being reminded of that significant interview I realize I probably owe Mr. Barrat some money. He never billed me and never asked me for payment, but he sure helped me past the lying temptations, to glimpse a little reality. I wonder if his knowing that three years later I entered the healing practice might serve as some form of payment?
Section 5: Keep the Good, toss out the bad.
Choose wisely. Choose wisely what you seek. Choose wisely what you keep. Choose wisely what you throw out. Choose wisely what you think. And choose wisely what you keep in thought and what you decide to throw out. Remember, one look in my cellar and you will see it is not possible to keep everything. The wise sorting of useful, beautiful treasures from the trash allows you to keep more of the good, and never confuse it with the evil. And that is what my goal is at the moment, as Jesus illustrates, (B-17), like a fisherman sorting his catch for the keepers and throwbacks.
This last section is like the glorious celebration of God's reality. In citations (B-12) - (B-18) you will glimpse all that Good that God hath made. And with the help of citations (S-22) - (S-29) in your textbook, Science and Health, sorting between the "keepable" and the disposable will become easier. And as we "consider the work of God" (GT, Eccl. 7:13) remember that you are a part of that wonderful reality of God‘s spiritual creation.
Citation (S-25) instructs us: "Let us learn of the real and eternal, and prepare for the reign of Spirit, the kingdom of heaven, -universal harmony, which cannot be lost nor remain forever unseen." (S&H 208:20) [The "cannot ... remain forever unseen" part reminds me of] the story of the "Refiner's Fire." "There was a group of women in a Bible study on the book of Malachi. As they were studying chapter three, they came across verse three, which says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled the women and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study. That week, this woman called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest, so as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot -- then she thought again about the verse that says, "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he also had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, how do you know when the silver is fully refined? He smiled at her and answered, "Oh that's easy -- when I see my image in it." "
One of my favorite observers of reality, Dr. Laurance Doyle once said in an interview, "One needs to check in with reality." I have found that to mean a checking in with reality in all the manifestations [or "work"-GT] of God's creation--in a spiritual discernment that "unfold(s) the unity and the reality of good, the unreality, the nothingness, of evil." (S-23), 269:5 Frequently glimpsing your eternal place in this "reality of good" is "The (REAL) View" most worth keeping and cherishing.

Dieu a-t-il des « chouchous » ?
Avez-vous déjà entendu quelqu'un dire, « Ici, je n'aurai pas de chouchous » ? En disant cela, cela signifie que la justice, le traitement équitable, et l'impartialité, seront les règles qu'ils appliqueront. Ils promettent de ne pas traiter mieux l'un que l'autre, chacun recevra un traitement juste et équitable. Nous aimons entendre cela d'un professeur, car nous savons que chaque élève sera traité de la même manière, qu'il n'y aura pas de chouchou. Mais qu'en est-il de Dieu ? Dieu aurait-il des chouchous ?
Il m'est venu une idée intéressante qui pourrait sembler assez déconcertante, voire choquante. C'est l'idée que Dieu ait des chouchous. Mais pensez à cela, ce favoritisme est équitable, impartial, débordant, et est très généreux avec chaque idée de la création. En d'autres mots, un favoritisme qui provient de l'Amour divin, infini, éternel et impartial !!! Vos besoins personnels reçoivent donc toute l'attention d'une source infinie de faveur, la faveur de Dieu envers nous, mais comme Dieu est Amour infini, l'attention qu'Il vous porte ne retire pas la moindre miette de la faveur qu'Il me porte.
Ce qui m'a fait penser à cela, ce sont les lignes de notre Leçon biblique de cette semaine sur le sujet « Christ Jésus », et les nombreux versets qui se réfèrent à la « grâce ». Le mot grâce dans le Nouveau Testament est toujours une traduction du mot grec, « charis » (χαρις). « Charis » apparaît 156 fois dans le Nouveau Testament grec. Et il est traduit la plupart du temps par « grâce », mais parfois aussi par faveur, bienveillance, plaisir, et remerciements.
Donc en fouillant cette semaine dans notre Leçon Biblique, commençons avec un sens complet que l'amour et la faveur infinis, plein de compassion, sont déversés sur nous avec impartialité et universellement. Et la preuve de la présence de l'amour de notre Père est le don inestimable de Son « fils unique », Christ Jésus.
Christ Jésus était donc aimé par le Père sans commune mesure, mais ce que nous apprenons dans cette Leçon Biblique, c'est que Jésus a vécu pour que nous aussi puissions connaître la grâce de l'Amour infini de Dieu. Oui, Jésus a peut-être été le « chouchou » de Dieu, mais tout au long de cette Leçon, nous apprendrons que vous l'êtes aussi.

J.B. Philips traduit : « Pour nous, la plus grande démonstration de l'amour que Dieu nous porte a été son unique Fils qu'Il a envoyé dans le monde pour nous donner la vie par lui. » Et la Bible New English (NEB) : « Car Dieu est amour ; et son amour nous a été révélé lorsqu'il a envoyé son unique Fils dans le monde pour nous donner la vie. »
Lecture Alternée : Jean 1 :1-5, 9-14, 16
La phrase « au commencement » est partagée avec Genèse 1. Mary Baker Eddy commente cette phrase dans Science et Santé, page 502 :24 « L'infini n'a pas de commencement. Ce mot commencement est employé ici pour exprimer le sens de ‘le seul' - c'est-à-dire l'éternelle vérité et l'éternelle unité de Dieu et de l'homme, y compris l'univers. » Il est donc intéressant de penser à la Parole, la Lumière et la Vie que nous voyons dans la naissance et la vie de Jésus, comme la réelle preuve de l'unique Vie qui existe, Dieu, Esprit. Que l'homme « unique » est la preuve de l'unique homme créé par Dieu. La Bible New English l'exprime ainsi, « Lorsque toutes choses ont commencé, la Parole existait déjà. La Parole demeure avec Dieu, ce qu'était Dieu, ainsi était la Parole. La Parole, était alors avec Dieu au commencement, et par lui, toutes choses sont arrivées ; rien n'a été créé sans lui. »
Section 1 : La grâce dans la naissance de Jésus
Nous sommes souvent touchés par la grâce de la jeune adolescente, Marie, lorsqu'elle a ouvert son cœur et sa vie au plus grand fait que Dieu est Père. Sa conception d'Emmanuel a littéralement rempli la promesse de « Dieu avec nous. » Mais qu'en est-il de la nature appropriée de l'acceptation gracieuse de Joseph ? J'aime comment la version New Living Translation interprète ces versets (Bible 2) « C'est ainsi qu'est né Jésus, le Messie. Sa mère, Marie a été fiancée à Joseph. Mais avant le mariage, alors qu'elle était encore vierge, elle tomba enceinte par le pouvoir du Saint-Esprit. Joseph, son fiancé, qui était un homme bon et ne voulait pas la déshonorer publiquement, a décidé de rompre discrètement son engagement. Mais alors qu'il pensait à cela, un ange de l'Eternel lui est apparu dans un rêve. "Joseph, fils de David" lui a dit l'ange, "n'aie pas peur de prendre Marie pour femme. Car l'enfant qu'elle attend a été conçu par le Saint-Esprit." »
Nous avons ici le parfait exemple de la façon dont la foi, la confiance, l'amour et le plus haut sens de grâce a élevé une famille de ce qui semblait d'abord être une raison de déshonneur, pour atteindre la grâce salvatrice de l'amour de Dieu pour tous. Grâce à ces choix et actions, le monde a non seulement reçu le meilleur homme à avoir marché dans le monde, mais aussi le Christ éternel qu'il a vécu si pleinement. Lisez S&S 1 et 2.
Ne serait-ce pas une leçon destinée à ceux qui, luttant avec une croyance de disgrâce ou de déshonneur, sont tentés de juger ou même tuer ceux qu'ils aiment ? Une culture ou tradition locale demande ou semble permettre de telles actions. Mais la grâce du tendre Amour de Dieu peut nous élever au-delà des limites de la croyance mortelle et conduire à la compréhension de « Emmanuel - Dieu avec nous. »
Section 2 : Jésus, un professeur exigeant
(Bible 5, 6) Nous avons ici des exemples intéressants de Jésus et de ses disciples enseignant et prêchant avec pouvoir. Mais avez-vous remarqué que Marc 1 et 6 comprennent tous les deux des indications de Jésus, le Maître, reconnaissant le besoin de sortir du tumulte et de prier ? « il se leva, et sortit pour aller dans un lieu désert, où il pria » et « Venez à l'écart dans un lieu désert, et reposez-vous un peu ». Un grand enseignement a commencé, il y avait là une préparation tranquille. Et les résultats ont inévitablement été une session d'enseignement qui a résonné de démonstrations fortes. Cela me rappelle Mme Eddy citant Horatius Bonar dans Ecrits Divers, page 338,
« Il faut toujours être sincère
Pour enseigner la vérité;
Pour toucher l'âme de ton frère
Ton âme aussi doit déborder;
Pour que la parole ait des ailes
Ton propre coeur doit s'épancher.
« Pense selon la vérité, et tes pensées
Nourriront un monde en détresse;
Parle selon la vérité, et tes paroles
Seront une semence féconde;
Vis selon la vérité, et ta vie
Sera un grand et noble credo. »
Les citations de Science et Santé dans cette section sont une explication pas à pas des méthodes d'enseignement de Jésus. Et deux facteurs en ressortent : Jésus enseignait par démonstration, et il demandait aux autres de faire de la démonstration la fondation de leur enseignement.
Section 3 : Le Christ guérisseur, pas d'intouchables
(Bible 9) Nous lisons l'histoire de la femme malade depuis 12 ans qui avait une perte de sang chronique. Selon la loi juive, elle devait être considérée comme impure ou intouchable. Elle n'aurait même pas été autorisée à se trouver dans la foule. Et elle n'aurait certainement pas été autorisée à toucher Jésus. Il y a aussi un aspect de l'histoire qui parle de nos relations avec les autres. Dans son état, elle n'aurait pas été autorisée à avoir un contact avec d'autres personnes que sa famille. Lorsqu'elle approcha Jésus (au milieu d'une foule énorme), elle le toucha. Il l'a senti et l'a reconnue. Il n'en était pas embarrassé, n'en avait pas peur et demanda de manière directe, « Qui m'a touché ? » S'il avait eu peur de ce que pensait les gens, n'aurait-il pas gardé la bouche fermée ? Au lieu de cela, il a posé une question et la femme qui savait ce qu'il s'était passé lui a dit toute la vérité. Et Jésus a dit, « Ma fille, ta foi t'a sauvée ; va en paix, et sois guérie de ton mal. » Il n'y avait aucune condamnation ritualiste. Il n'y avait aucune tentative guidée par la crainte à cacher l'événement. Et le Maître a même parlé à la femme comme si elle faisait partie de sa famille disant, « Ma fille ».
Il y a quelques mois, j'ai regardé par la fenêtre de ma cuisine et j'ai vu un homme débraillé et manifestement saoul qui entrait dans la boulangerie de l'autre côté de la rue. C'était un grand noir, ce qui n'est pas commun ici à Dresden. J'ai vu que la vendeuse était seule et j'ai donc pensé qu'il serait bien que je me rende dans la boulangerie. Lorsque j'y suis arrivé, l'homme sortait avec les quelques gâteaux qu'il avait achetés. Je priais alors pour connaître l'action appropriée. J'ai été guidé à dire, « Eh frère, je parie que tu parles anglais. » Avec un grand sourire, il a répondu, « Bien sûr. » Je lui ai donc parlé et lui ai demandé si je pouvais l'aider, s'il avait un endroit où rester, ou besoin de quelque chose ? « Non, tout va bien ». Selon l'apparence extérieure, cela semblait loin d'être le cas. Mais j'ai alors simplement dit, « Et bien, je sais que tu sais être le fils bien-aimé de Dieu et que tu es béni. » Il m'a alors pris dans ses bras pour la plus forte étreinte (un « hug » américain) que vous puissiez imaginer, il a ensuite pris ma tête avec ses mains et a embrassé mes deux yeux. Il a ensuite simplement dit, « Que Dieu te bénisse, » et il est reparti droit comme un i, ne titubant plus. J'ai remarqué de l'autre côté de la rue, des ouvriers qui avaient presque les yeux qui sortaient de leur tête. J'ai donc continué de prier sachant que l'homme de Dieu est toujours aimé, juste, saint et libre, et qu'il n'y a aucune condition humaine qui soit impure, contagieuse, ou dangereuse. Et pour couronné le tout, la vendeuse de la boulangerie a affirmé qu'il avait été absolument respectueux et reconnaissant pour le gâteau qu'elle lui avait vendu. Les apparences ne doivent pas être trompeuses en présence du Christ. Et cette section le dit clairement (S&S 7), « Les chrétiens sont aujourd'hui sous des ordres aussi formels qu'ils l'étaient alors d'être semblables au Christ, de posséder l'esprit du Christ, de suivre l'exemple du Christ, et de guérir les malades aussi bien que les pécheurs. »
Section 4 : Les obligations sont satisfaites par des idées, mêmes les taxes
J'adore cette section. Dans la citation Bible 12, nous lisons que certains percepteurs posèrent une question difficile à Pierre. « Votre maître ne paie-t-il pas les deux drachmes ? » Mais cela concernait la « taxe du temple », pas celle pour César. C'était la demi-pièce que chaque homme adulte était supposé payer. Et Jésus savait ce qui avait eu lieu sans que Pierre ne lui en parle. (« Jésus le prévint,... ») Jésus a alors parlé avec Pierre des taxes et lui a alors dit d'aller en mer, d'attraper un poisson, et de trouver une pièce de monnaie. Il le fit. Le montant correspondait exactement à la taxe pour deux. Souvenez-vous maintenant que Pierre était un pêcheur. Il avait de quoi pêcher. Il savait comment pêcher. Et il savait où aller.
Nous devons nous souvenir comme dans (Bible 13) 2 Cor. 9 :8 et (S&S 10) page 494:12, que la grâce de l'Amour divin répond toujours à nos besoins. Et il répond au besoin là où nous sommes et avec les outils et les talents que nous avons. Nous pouvons déclarer, « J'ai exactement ce dont j'ai besoin maintenant. »
Voici un exemple. Il y a quelques années, je priais pour mes deux frères. A ce moment là, ils cherchaient tous les deux du travail. Mon frère aîné, Gary, vivait avec moi. Et mon autre frère, Scott, vivait avec notre mère.
A ce moment, je vivais encore en Floride, pas trop loin de la plage et j'aimais surfer. Kenny, l'un de mes copains de surf m'a appelé et m'a demandé si je voulais l'accompagner à St. Augustine pour une après-midi de surf. J'ai accepté. Et j'ai invité mon frère aîné, Gary, à se joindre à nous. Il ne travaillait pas, mais il étudiait la Science Chrétienne et priait et écoutait les directives de Dieu. Il a décidé de se joindre à nous et a pris son filet de pêcheur (un filet rond que vous lancez). Pendant que je surfais avec Kenny, Gary a lancé plusieurs fois son filet, mais par manque du succès, il a abandonné. Il a arrêté de jeter son filet et s'est mis à prier au sujet du surf. Après avoir prié pendant un moment alors qu'il regardait dans les vagues, il a vu un grand poisson. Il a décidé d'essayer de l'attraper avec son filet et est donc entré dans l'eau aussi loin que possible et avec toute sa force, il a jeté le filet. Il en a sorti l'un des meilleurs poissons qu'il aurait pu attraper. En sortant le poisson de l'eau, Gary s'est demandé s'il était comestible, il était peut-être mort depuis trop longtemps ? A ce moment là, une camionnette s'est arrêtée et le chauffeur lui a dit, « Quel poisson ! Il a dû se faire prendre par le haut fond et s'est noyé lorsque du sable est entré dans ses branchies. » Gary a demandé, « Comment le savez-vous ? » « Et bien, je suis vétérinaire et je peux le deviner à la couleur de ses branchies. » Nous avons chargé le poisson dans la Jeep de Kenny et on s'est mis en route pour les 30 minutes qui nous séparaient de la maison. Kenny a décidé qu'il avait besoin de prendre un peu d'essence et s'est donc arrêté dans une station service. Arrivé là-bas, Gary a vendu à quelqu'un le poisson pour $35. Il a payé l'essence pour Kenny et il lui restait $20 dans sa poche. Il avait pourtant quitté la maison sans un sous.
Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à la maison, le téléphone a sonné. C'était mon autre frère, Scott. (Il avait aussi suivi le cours en Science Chrétienne). J'avais de la peine à attendre pour lui dire ce qui était arrivé. Il ne me laissait pas lui raconter l'histoire car il voulait partager avec moi quelque chose qui lui était arrivé. Je l'ai donc écouté. Scott conduisait dans la forêt « Ocala National Forest » dans la voiture de notre mère. Il a alors remarqué qu'un bout de papier était tombé d'une voiture qui se trouvait devant eux. Il a continué à rouler mais l'idée lui est soudainement venue que le papier ressemblait à de l'argent. Il a fait demi-tour et est retourné où il avait vu le papier tomber. La route était une grande route à deux voies bordées de sapins et de palmiers avec des hautes herbes. Scott a parqué la voiture, et a commencé à marcher lorsqu'il a vu à ses pieds un billet de $50. Il avait de la peine à retenir sa joie lorsqu'il l'a ramassé. Il est retourné dans la voiture et a repris la route, très heureux. Il s'est alors souvenu qu'il avait vu 2 bouts de papier. Il est donc retourné au même endroit et a commencé à chercher. Et il a trouvé un autre billet de $50. Il était parti de chez lui sans un sou en poche et maintenant, voyez ce qu'il avait dans les poches.
J'ai écouté attentivement Scott me raconter son histoire. Et tout en écoutant je savais sans aucun doute, que les deux événements ont eu lieu au même instant. Je savais que l'Amour avait répondu aux besoins de mes deux frères. Et je savais avec certitude que Dieu répondrait toujours à leurs besoins.
Comme il est dit dans la citation S&S 11, « Il y a danger aujourd'hui à renouveler l'offense des juifs en limitant le Saint d'Israël et en demandant : "Dieu pourrait-Il dresser une table dans le désert ?" Que Dieu ne peut-Il faire ? »
Section 5 : L'exemple de Jésus, défiant la loi matériel
(Bible 14) « Après cela ... » la phrase d'introduction ne montre pas la période de temps qui s'est probablement trouvée entre Jean 5 et Jean 6. Et le lien entre Jean 6:1 et Jean 6:16 comprenait un petit évènement intéressant, le repas des cinq mille personnes. A la fin de cet événement dans Jean 6:15 il est dit, « Et Jésus, sachant qu'ils allaient venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira de nouveau sur la montagne, lui seul. » Donc avant les événements qui l'ont conduit à marcher sur l'eau, et à ramener le bateau « immédiatement » au bord (déplacement instantané d'un bateau et des disciples), Jésus était seul, probablement en train de prier, n'est-ce pas ? Souvenez-vous dans la Section 2 (Bible 5), Marc 1:35, que Jésus est aussi « all[é] dans un lieu désert, où il pria. » Ce qui s'est donc produit après cette retraite et cette prière, ce sont des événements incroyables enfreignant les lois physiques de la matière, telle que la gravité. Les gens voulaient faire de lui un roi pour concrétiser l'intérêt national de la restauration du trône de Salomon (voir Jean 6:15) Mais Jésus était-il destiné à régner sur un royaume politique ou à régner sur toute loi matérielle ? La restauration d'un royaume spirituel, où l'homme revendiquait la domination donnée par Dieu était la mission de notre Maître. La restauration d' « Emmanuel, ou Dieu avec nous » vue en démonstration, pas uniquement en mots.
Les citations S&S 14 à S&S 18 explorent les possibilités et capacités de l'homme qui était « la propre ressemblance de Dieu », « maîtrisant » l'idée infinie. (S&S 15) Si même Jésus cherchait un « lieu désert » pour prier, n'est-ce pas pour nous un bon indicateur de la grande valeur qu'a un « moment de prière » ?
J'ai eu une expérience qui me donna un petit aperçu de cela, lorsque j'ai passé une nuit entière à prier dans une salle d'attende d'un hôpital. Le jour suivant, je suis rentré à la maison dans l'espoir de pouvoir me reposer un peu. Et au lieu de cela, j'ai eu le jour le plus chargé à ce moment de ma pratique de la guérison. Je n'ai trouvé aucun moment de répit pour pouvoir dormir, car il y avait trop d'appels me demandant de l'aide, et trop de guérisons rapides.
C'est dans cette retraite dans la prière, dans cette vérité infinie du Christ, que chacun d'entre nous pouvons nous élever au-dessus des soi-disant lois matérielles, et embrasser le Christ guérisseur.
Section 6 : Qui est cet homme, Jésus ?
L'identification correcte de quelqu'un est importante. Je me souviens d'un après-midi pendant ma période universitaire. J'étais sur le chemin de la maison après l'école et je suis passé par la piste de course de l'Université de Floride. J'ai jeté un coup d'œil et j'ai observé un coureur. Je dois dire que je n'avais jamais ressenti une telle chose. Regarder ce type courir, c'était comme observer le plus beau guépard, vous savez, l'un de ceux qu'on voit dans les films de National Geographic, des animaux tellement gracieux et puissants en pleine course. C'était impressionnant, magnifique. Je ne pouvais pas détourner mon regard. Un autre coureur s'est approché et a demandé, « Savez-vous qui est ce type ? Il vient d'Afrique et est en visite. Il tient un record mondial ! » Et c'est sûr qu'il en avait l'air.
(Bible 15) Jésus a demandé, « Qui dit-on que je suis, moi, le Fils de l'homme ? » Les disciples partageaient la même vision que les gens, Jésus a donc répété, « Et vous, ... , qui dites-vous que je suis ? » Pierre a répondu, « Tu es le Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant. »
Section 7 : La volonté de suivre fidèlement notre Maître
(Bible 19) Jean 1:16, « Et nous avons tous reçu de sa plénitude, et grâce pour grâce ; »
Je parlais avec un ami qui m'est cher, David Pickersgill de Leeds, Angleterre, de la Leçon de cette semaine et il partagea avec moi sa définition préférée de « grâce » - « l'influence divine sur le cœur, et son reflet dans la vie. »
Comme c'est merveilleux de voir que nous avons tout reçu, chacun a une part, et tout a été répondu par la grâce de Dieu. Et quel splendide exemple de grâce nous a été donné par la vie de notre Sauveur, Christ Jésus. La source divine de la vie de Jésus et l'influence divine démontrée tout au long de sa vie, sont certainement les plus grands cadeaux. Mais la question pourrait être, qu'allons-nous faire avec ce cadeau ? Sera-t-il comme le cadeau de mariage qui n'est pas sortis de sa boîte et qui se trouve dans une armoire depuis 20 ans ? Ou allez-vous déballer le cadeau, l'utiliser quotidiennement, et laisser votre gratitude pour le cadeau être vue par son utilisation ?
Mme Eddy demande (S&S 22), « Quand donc tous ceux qui prétendent être disciples de Jésus apprendront-ils à le suivre dans toutes ses voies et à imiter ses œuvres puissantes ? »
J'ai souvent pensé que c'était la pratique de quelque chose qui importait le plus. Après un léger succès dans les compétitions de natation, j'ai eu la joie d'occuper un peu le poste d'entraineur. J'ai aussi été entraîneur des plus jeunes nageurs d'une équipe de natation. Et j'ai observé quelque chose qui fut une leçon durable. Il y avait souvent quelques nageurs plein de talent qui gagnaient course après cours sans faire beaucoup d'effort. Et il y avait ensuite des nageurs avec un petit peu de talent naturel, et beaucoup de cœur et d'énergie, qui avaient encore plus de succès. C'est peut-être comme la citation que ma maman a encadrée dans son bureau :
« Rien au monde ne peut prendre la place de la persévérance.
Le talent ne le peut pas ; rien au monde n'est plus commun que des hommes infructueux avec du talent.
Le génie ne le peut pas ; un génie sans récompense est un proverbe.
L'éducation ne le peut pas ; le monde est plein "d'épaves" éduquées.
La persévérance et la détermination seuls sont omnipotentes. »

Nous avons assurément tous reçus le don de grâce dans la vie et l'amour de notre Sauveur, Christ Jésus. Mme Eddy nous demande, « Qui est prêt à se conformer à son enseignement et à suivre son exemple ? » (S&S 23)
Si nous suivons l'exemple de notre Maître, nous sommes assurés de réussite.

DEBALLEZ ET UTILISEZ LE CADEAU DE LA GRACE : LA VIE ET L'AMOUR DE CHRIST JESUS
Dieu a-t-il des « chouchous » ?
Avez-vous déjà entendu quelqu'un dire, « Ici, je n'aurai pas de chouchous » ? En disant cela, cela signifie que la justice, le traitement équitable, et l'impartialité, seront les règles qu'ils appliqueront. Ils promettent de ne pas traiter mieux l'un que l'autre, chacun recevra un traitement juste et équitable. Nous aimons entendre cela d'un professeur, car nous savons que chaque élève sera traité de la même manière, qu'il n'y aura pas de chouchou. Mais qu'en est-il de Dieu ? Dieu aurait-il des chouchous ?
Il m'est venu une idée intéressante qui pourrait sembler assez déconcertante, voire choquante. C'est l'idée que Dieu ait des chouchous. Mais pensez à cela, ce favoritisme est équitable, impartial, débordant, et est très généreux avec chaque idée de la création. En d'autres mots, un favoritisme qui provient de l'Amour divin, infini, éternel et impartial !!! Vos besoins personnels reçoivent donc toute l'attention d'une source infinie de faveur, la faveur de Dieu envers nous, mais comme Dieu est Amour infini, l'attention qu'Il vous porte ne retire pas la moindre miette de la faveur qu'Il me porte.
Ce qui m'a fait penser à cela, ce sont les lignes de notre Leçon biblique de cette semaine sur le sujet « Christ Jésus », et les nombreux versets qui se réfèrent à la « grâce ». Le mot grâce dans le Nouveau Testament est toujours une traduction du mot grec, « charis » (χαρις). « Charis » apparaît 156 fois dans le Nouveau Testament grec. Et il est traduit la plupart du temps par « grâce », mais parfois aussi par faveur, bienveillance, plaisir, et remerciements.
Donc en fouillant cette semaine dans notre Leçon Biblique, commençons avec un sens complet que l'amour et la faveur infinis, plein de compassion, sont déversés sur nous avec impartialité et universellement. Et la preuve de la présence de l'amour de notre Père est le don inestimable de Son « fils unique », Christ Jésus.
Christ Jésus était donc aimé par le Père sans commune mesure, mais ce que nous apprenons dans cette Leçon Biblique, c'est que Jésus a vécu pour que nous aussi puissions connaître la grâce de l'Amour infini de Dieu. Oui, Jésus a peut-être été le « chouchou » de Dieu, mais tout au long de cette Leçon, nous apprendrons que vous l'êtes aussi.

J.B. Philips traduit : « Pour nous, la plus grande démonstration de l'amour que Dieu nous porte a été son unique Fils qu'Il a envoyé dans le monde pour nous donner la vie par lui. » Et la Bible New English (NEB) : « Car Dieu est amour ; et son amour nous a été révélé lorsqu'il a envoyé son unique Fils dans le monde pour nous donner la vie. »
Lecture Alternée : Jean 1 :1-5, 9-14, 16
La phrase « au commencement » est partagée avec Genèse 1. Mary Baker Eddy commente cette phrase dans Science et Santé, page 502 :24 « L'infini n'a pas de commencement. Ce mot commencement est employé ici pour exprimer le sens de ‘le seul' - c'est-à-dire l'éternelle vérité et l'éternelle unité de Dieu et de l'homme, y compris l'univers. » Il est donc intéressant de penser à la Parole, la Lumière et la Vie que nous voyons dans la naissance et la vie de Jésus, comme la réelle preuve de l'unique Vie qui existe, Dieu, Esprit. Que l'homme « unique » est la preuve de l'unique homme créé par Dieu. La Bible New English l'exprime ainsi, « Lorsque toutes choses ont commencé, la Parole existait déjà. La Parole demeure avec Dieu, ce qu'était Dieu, ainsi était la Parole. La Parole, était alors avec Dieu au commencement, et par lui, toutes choses sont arrivées ; rien n'a été créé sans lui. »
Section 1 : La grâce dans la naissance de Jésus
Nous sommes souvent touchés par la grâce de la jeune adolescente, Marie, lorsqu'elle a ouvert son cœur et sa vie au plus grand fait que Dieu est Père. Sa conception d'Emmanuel a littéralement rempli la promesse de « Dieu avec nous. » Mais qu'en est-il de la nature appropriée de l'acceptation gracieuse de Joseph ? J'aime comment la version New Living Translation interprète ces versets (Bible 2) « C'est ainsi qu'est né Jésus, le Messie. Sa mère, Marie a été fiancée à Joseph. Mais avant le mariage, alors qu'elle était encore vierge, elle tomba enceinte par le pouvoir du Saint-Esprit. Joseph, son fiancé, qui était un homme bon et ne voulait pas la déshonorer publiquement, a décidé de rompre discrètement son engagement. Mais alors qu'il pensait à cela, un ange de l'Eternel lui est apparu dans un rêve. "Joseph, fils de David" lui a dit l'ange, "n'aie pas peur de prendre Marie pour femme. Car l'enfant qu'elle attend a été conçu par le Saint-Esprit." »
Nous avons ici le parfait exemple de la façon dont la foi, la confiance, l'amour et le plus haut sens de grâce a élevé une famille de ce qui semblait d'abord être une raison de déshonneur, pour atteindre la grâce salvatrice de l'amour de Dieu pour tous. Grâce à ces choix et actions, le monde a non seulement reçu le meilleur homme à avoir marché dans le monde, mais aussi le Christ éternel qu'il a vécu si pleinement. Lisez S&S 1 et 2.
Ne serait-ce pas une leçon destinée à ceux qui, luttant avec une croyance de disgrâce ou de déshonneur, sont tentés de juger ou même tuer ceux qu'ils aiment ? Une culture ou tradition locale demande ou semble permettre de telles actions. Mais la grâce du tendre Amour de Dieu peut nous élever au-delà des limites de la croyance mortelle et conduire à la compréhension de « Emmanuel - Dieu avec nous. »
Section 2 : Jésus, un professeur exigeant
(Bible 5, 6) Nous avons ici des exemples intéressants de Jésus et de ses disciples enseignant et prêchant avec pouvoir. Mais avez-vous remarqué que Marc 1 et 6 comprennent tous les deux des indications de Jésus, le Maître, reconnaissant le besoin de sortir du tumulte et de prier ? « il se leva, et sortit pour aller dans un lieu désert, où il pria » et « Venez à l'écart dans un lieu désert, et reposez-vous un peu ». Un grand enseignement a commencé, il y avait là une préparation tranquille. Et les résultats ont inévitablement été une session d'enseignement qui a résonné de démonstrations fortes. Cela me rappelle Mme Eddy citant Horatius Bonar dans Ecrits Divers, page 338,
« Il faut toujours être sincère
Pour enseigner la vérité;
Pour toucher l'âme de ton frère
Ton âme aussi doit déborder;
Pour que la parole ait des ailes
Ton propre coeur doit s'épancher.
« Pense selon la vérité, et tes pensées
Nourriront un monde en détresse;
Parle selon la vérité, et tes paroles
Seront une semence féconde;
Vis selon la vérité, et ta vie
Sera un grand et noble credo. »
Les citations de Science et Santé dans cette section sont une explication pas à pas des méthodes d'enseignement de Jésus. Et deux facteurs en ressortent : Jésus enseignait par démonstration, et il demandait aux autres de faire de la démonstration la fondation de leur enseignement.
Section 3 : Le Christ guérisseur, pas d'intouchables
(Bible 9) Nous lisons l'histoire de la femme malade depuis 12 ans qui avait une perte de sang chronique. Selon la loi juive, elle devait être considérée comme impure ou intouchable. Elle n'aurait même pas été autorisée à se trouver dans la foule. Et elle n'aurait certainement pas été autorisée à toucher Jésus. Il y a aussi un aspect de l'histoire qui parle de nos relations avec les autres. Dans son état, elle n'aurait pas été autorisée à avoir un contact avec d'autres personnes que sa famille. Lorsqu'elle approcha Jésus (au milieu d'une foule énorme), elle le toucha. Il l'a senti et l'a reconnue. Il n'en était pas embarrassé, n'en avait pas peur et demanda de manière directe, « Qui m'a touché ? » S'il avait eu peur de ce que pensait les gens, n'aurait-il pas gardé la bouche fermée ? Au lieu de cela, il a posé une question et la femme qui savait ce qu'il s'était passé lui a dit toute la vérité. Et Jésus a dit, « Ma fille, ta foi t'a sauvée ; va en paix, et sois guérie de ton mal. » Il n'y avait aucune condamnation ritualiste. Il n'y avait aucune tentative guidée par la crainte à cacher l'événement. Et le Maître a même parlé à la femme comme si elle faisait partie de sa famille disant, « Ma fille ».
Il y a quelques mois, j'ai regardé par la fenêtre de ma cuisine et j'ai vu un homme débraillé et manifestement saoul qui entrait dans la boulangerie de l'autre côté de la rue. C'était un grand noir, ce qui n'est pas commun ici à Dresden. J'ai vu que la vendeuse était seule et j'ai donc pensé qu'il serait bien que je me rende dans la boulangerie. Lorsque j'y suis arrivé, l'homme sortait avec les quelques gâteaux qu'il avait achetés. Je priais alors pour connaître l'action appropriée. J'ai été guidé à dire, « Eh frère, je parie que tu parles anglais. » Avec un grand sourire, il a répondu, « Bien sûr. » Je lui ai donc parlé et lui ai demandé si je pouvais l'aider, s'il avait un endroit où rester, ou besoin de quelque chose ? « Non, tout va bien ». Selon l'apparence extérieure, cela semblait loin d'être le cas. Mais j'ai alors simplement dit, « Et bien, je sais que tu sais être le fils bien-aimé de Dieu et que tu es béni. » Il m'a alors pris dans ses bras pour la plus forte étreinte (un « hug » américain) que vous puissiez imaginer, il a ensuite pris ma tête avec ses mains et a embrassé mes deux yeux. Il a ensuite simplement dit, « Que Dieu te bénisse, » et il est reparti droit comme un i, ne titubant plus. J'ai remarqué de l'autre côté de la rue, des ouvriers qui avaient presque les yeux qui sortaient de leur tête. J'ai donc continué de prier sachant que l'homme de Dieu est toujours aimé, juste, saint et libre, et qu'il n'y a aucune condition humaine qui soit impure, contagieuse, ou dangereuse. Et pour couronné le tout, la vendeuse de la boulangerie a affirmé qu'il avait été absolument respectueux et reconnaissant pour le gâteau qu'elle lui avait vendu. Les apparences ne doivent pas être trompeuses en présence du Christ. Et cette section le dit clairement (S&S 7), « Les chrétiens sont aujourd'hui sous des ordres aussi formels qu'ils l'étaient alors d'être semblables au Christ, de posséder l'esprit du Christ, de suivre l'exemple du Christ, et de guérir les malades aussi bien que les pécheurs. »
Section 4 : Les obligations sont satisfaites par des idées, mêmes les taxes
J'adore cette section. Dans la citation Bible 12, nous lisons que certains percepteurs posèrent une question difficile à Pierre. « Votre maître ne paie-t-il pas les deux drachmes ? » Mais cela concernait la « taxe du temple », pas celle pour César. C'était la demi-pièce que chaque homme adulte était supposé payer. Et Jésus savait ce qui avait eu lieu sans que Pierre ne lui en parle. (« Jésus le prévint,... ») Jésus a alors parlé avec Pierre des taxes et lui a alors dit d'aller en mer, d'attraper un poisson, et de trouver une pièce de monnaie. Il le fit. Le montant correspondait exactement à la taxe pour deux. Souvenez-vous maintenant que Pierre était un pêcheur. Il avait de quoi pêcher. Il savait comment pêcher. Et il savait où aller.
Nous devons nous souvenir comme dans (Bible 13) 2 Cor. 9 :8 et (S&S 10) page 494:12, que la grâce de l'Amour divin répond toujours à nos besoins. Et il répond au besoin là où nous sommes et avec les outils et les talents que nous avons. Nous pouvons déclarer, « J'ai exactement ce dont j'ai besoin maintenant. »
Voici un exemple. Il y a quelques années, je priais pour mes deux frères. A ce moment là, ils cherchaient tous les deux du travail. Mon frère aîné, Gary, vivait avec moi. Et mon autre frère, Scott, vivait avec notre mère.
A ce moment, je vivais encore en Floride, pas trop loin de la plage et j'aimais surfer. Kenny, l'un de mes copains de surf m'a appelé et m'a demandé si je voulais l'accompagner à St. Augustine pour une après-midi de surf. J'ai accepté. Et j'ai invité mon frère aîné, Gary, à se joindre à nous. Il ne travaillait pas, mais il étudiait la Science Chrétienne et priait et écoutait les directives de Dieu. Il a décidé de se joindre à nous et a pris son filet de pêcheur (un filet rond que vous lancez). Pendant que je surfais avec Kenny, Gary a lancé plusieurs fois son filet, mais par manque du succès, il a abandonné. Il a arrêté de jeter son filet et s'est mis à prier au sujet du surf. Après avoir prié pendant un moment alors qu'il regardait dans les vagues, il a vu un grand poisson. Il a décidé d'essayer de l'attraper avec son filet et est donc entré dans l'eau aussi loin que possible et avec toute sa force, il a jeté le filet. Il en a sorti l'un des meilleurs poissons qu'il aurait pu attraper. En sortant le poisson de l'eau, Gary s'est demandé s'il était comestible, il était peut-être mort depuis trop longtemps ? A ce moment là, une camionnette s'est arrêtée et le chauffeur lui a dit, « Quel poisson ! Il a dû se faire prendre par le haut fond et s'est noyé lorsque du sable est entré dans ses branchies. » Gary a demandé, « Comment le savez-vous ? » « Et bien, je suis vétérinaire et je peux le deviner à la couleur de ses branchies. » Nous avons chargé le poisson dans la Jeep de Kenny et on s'est mis en route pour les 30 minutes qui nous séparaient de la maison. Kenny a décidé qu'il avait besoin de prendre un peu d'essence et s'est donc arrêté dans une station service. Arrivé là-bas, Gary a vendu à quelqu'un le poisson pour $35. Il a payé l'essence pour Kenny et il lui restait $20 dans sa poche. Il avait pourtant quitté la maison sans un sous.
Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à la maison, le téléphone a sonné. C'était mon autre frère, Scott. (Il avait aussi suivi le cours en Science Chrétienne). J'avais de la peine à attendre pour lui dire ce qui était arrivé. Il ne me laissait pas lui raconter l'histoire car il voulait partager avec moi quelque chose qui lui était arrivé. Je l'ai donc écouté. Scott conduisait dans la forêt « Ocala National Forest » dans la voiture de notre mère. Il a alors remarqué qu'un bout de papier était tombé d'une voiture qui se trouvait devant eux. Il a continué à rouler mais l'idée lui est soudainement venue que le papier ressemblait à de l'argent. Il a fait demi-tour et est retourné où il avait vu le papier tomber. La route était une grande route à deux voies bordées de sapins et de palmiers avec des hautes herbes. Scott a parqué la voiture, et a commencé à marcher lorsqu'il a vu à ses pieds un billet de $50. Il avait de la peine à retenir sa joie lorsqu'il l'a ramassé. Il est retourné dans la voiture et a repris la route, très heureux. Il s'est alors souvenu qu'il avait vu 2 bouts de papier. Il est donc retourné au même endroit et a commencé à chercher. Et il a trouvé un autre billet de $50. Il était parti de chez lui sans un sou en poche et maintenant, voyez ce qu'il avait dans les poches.
J'ai écouté attentivement Scott me raconter son histoire. Et tout en écoutant je savais sans aucun doute, que les deux événements ont eu lieu au même instant. Je savais que l'Amour avait répondu aux besoins de mes deux frères. Et je savais avec certitude que Dieu répondrait toujours à leurs besoins.
Comme il est dit dans la citation S&S 11, « Il y a danger aujourd'hui à renouveler l'offense des juifs en limitant le Saint d'Israël et en demandant : "Dieu pourrait-Il dresser une table dans le désert ?" Que Dieu ne peut-Il faire ? »
Section 5 : L'exemple de Jésus, défiant la loi matériel
(Bible 14) « Après cela ... » la phrase d'introduction ne montre pas la période de temps qui s'est probablement trouvée entre Jean 5 et Jean 6. Et le lien entre Jean 6:1 et Jean 6:16 comprenait un petit évènement intéressant, le repas des cinq mille personnes. A la fin de cet événement dans Jean 6:15 il est dit, « Et Jésus, sachant qu'ils allaient venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira de nouveau sur la montagne, lui seul. » Donc avant les événements qui l'ont conduit à marcher sur l'eau, et à ramener le bateau « immédiatement » au bord (déplacement instantané d'un bateau et des disciples), Jésus était seul, probablement en train de prier, n'est-ce pas ? Souvenez-vous dans la Section 2 (Bible 5), Marc 1:35, que Jésus est aussi « all[é] dans un lieu désert, où il pria. » Ce qui s'est donc produit après cette retraite et cette prière, ce sont des événements incroyables enfreignant les lois physiques de la matière, telle que la gravité. Les gens voulaient faire de lui un roi pour concrétiser l'intérêt national de la restauration du trône de Salomon (voir Jean 6:15) Mais Jésus était-il destiné à régner sur un royaume politique ou à régner sur toute loi matérielle ? La restauration d'un royaume spirituel, où l'homme revendiquait la domination donnée par Dieu était la mission de notre Maître. La restauration d' « Emmanuel, ou Dieu avec nous » vue en démonstration, pas uniquement en mots.
Les citations S&S 14 à S&S 18 explorent les possibilités et capacités de l'homme qui était « la propre ressemblance de Dieu », « maîtrisant » l'idée infinie. (S&S 15) Si même Jésus cherchait un « lieu désert » pour prier, n'est-ce pas pour nous un bon indicateur de la grande valeur qu'a un « moment de prière » ?
J'ai eu une expérience qui me donna un petit aperçu de cela, lorsque j'ai passé une nuit entière à prier dans une salle d'attende d'un hôpital. Le jour suivant, je suis rentré à la maison dans l'espoir de pouvoir me reposer un peu. Et au lieu de cela, j'ai eu le jour le plus chargé à ce moment de ma pratique de la guérison. Je n'ai trouvé aucun moment de répit pour pouvoir dormir, car il y avait trop d'appels me demandant de l'aide, et trop de guérisons rapides.
C'est dans cette retraite dans la prière, dans cette vérité infinie du Christ, que chacun d'entre nous pouvons nous élever au-dessus des soi-disant lois matérielles, et embrasser le Christ guérisseur.
Section 6 : Qui est cet homme, Jésus ?
L'identification correcte de quelqu'un est importante. Je me souviens d'un après-midi pendant ma période universitaire. J'étais sur le chemin de la maison après l'école et je suis passé par la piste de course de l'Université de Floride. J'ai jeté un coup d'œil et j'ai observé un coureur. Je dois dire que je n'avais jamais ressenti une telle chose. Regarder ce type courir, c'était comme observer le plus beau guépard, vous savez, l'un de ceux qu'on voit dans les films de National Geographic, des animaux tellement gracieux et puissants en pleine course. C'était impressionnant, magnifique. Je ne pouvais pas détourner mon regard. Un autre coureur s'est approché et a demandé, « Savez-vous qui est ce type ? Il vient d'Afrique et est en visite. Il tient un record mondial ! » Et c'est sûr qu'il en avait l'air.
(Bible 15) Jésus a demandé, « Qui dit-on que je suis, moi, le Fils de l'homme ? » Les disciples partageaient la même vision que les gens, Jésus a donc répété, « Et vous, ... , qui dites-vous que je suis ? » Pierre a répondu, « Tu es le Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant. »
Section 7 : La volonté de suivre fidèlement notre Maître
(Bible 19) Jean 1:16, « Et nous avons tous reçu de sa plénitude, et grâce pour grâce ; »
Je parlais avec un ami qui m'est cher, David Pickersgill de Leeds, Angleterre, de la Leçon de cette semaine et il partagea avec moi sa définition préférée de « grâce » - « l'influence divine sur le cœur, et son reflet dans la vie. »
Comme c'est merveilleux de voir que nous avons tout reçu, chacun a une part, et tout a été répondu par la grâce de Dieu. Et quel splendide exemple de grâce nous a été donné par la vie de notre Sauveur, Christ Jésus. La source divine de la vie de Jésus et l'influence divine démontrée tout au long de sa vie, sont certainement les plus grands cadeaux. Mais la question pourrait être, qu'allons-nous faire avec ce cadeau ? Sera-t-il comme le cadeau de mariage qui n'est pas sortis de sa boîte et qui se trouve dans une armoire depuis 20 ans ? Ou allez-vous déballer le cadeau, l'utiliser quotidiennement, et laisser votre gratitude pour le cadeau être vue par son utilisation ?
Mme Eddy demande (S&S 22), « Quand donc tous ceux qui prétendent être disciples de Jésus apprendront-ils à le suivre dans toutes ses voies et à imiter ses œuvres puissantes ? »
J'ai souvent pensé que c'était la pratique de quelque chose qui importait le plus. Après un léger succès dans les compétitions de natation, j'ai eu la joie d'occuper un peu le poste d'entraineur. J'ai aussi été entraîneur des plus jeunes nageurs d'une équipe de natation. Et j'ai observé quelque chose qui fut une leçon durable. Il y avait souvent quelques nageurs plein de talent qui gagnaient course après cours sans faire beaucoup d'effort. Et il y avait ensuite des nageurs avec un petit peu de talent naturel, et beaucoup de cœur et d'énergie, qui avaient encore plus de succès. C'est peut-être comme la citation que ma maman a encadrée dans son bureau :
« Rien au monde ne peut prendre la place de la persévérance.
Le talent ne le peut pas ; rien au monde n'est plus commun que des hommes infructueux avec du talent.
Le génie ne le peut pas ; un génie sans récompense est un proverbe.
L'éducation ne le peut pas ; le monde est plein "d'épaves" éduquées.
La persévérance et la détermination seuls sont omnipotentes. »

Nous avons assurément tous reçus le don de grâce dans la vie et l'amour de notre Sauveur, Christ Jésus. Mme Eddy nous demande, « Qui est prêt à se conformer à son enseignement et à suivre son exemple ? » (S&S 23)
Si nous suivons l'exemple de notre Maître, nous sommes assurés de réussite.

¿Juega Dios a favoritos?
¿Alguna vez has oído a alguien decir, "No voy a jugar a los favoritos aquí . Esto, por supuesto, significa que la justicia, un trato equitativo, y la imparcialidad van a ser las normas que aplica. Promete no tratar mejor uno que otro, todos recibirán un trato igual y justo. Nos gusta saber que todos van a ser tratados de la misma manera por un maestro.
Pero ¿qué pasa con Dios? ¿Dios juega a favoritos?
Una idea interesante se me ocurrió, y podría parecer un poco desconcertante, y un poco impactante al principio. Esta idea es que Dios en verdad juega a favoritos. Pero, un pensamiento acerca de esto es que ese favoritismo es equitativo, imparcial, desbordante, y generosamente otorgado a todas las ideas en la creación. En otras palabras, un favoritismo que se ha derramado desde el infinito, eterno e imparcial Amor divino! Por lo tanto, tus necesidades individuales reciben toda la atención de una fuente inagotable de gracia, el favor de Dios hacia ti, pero como Dios es infinito Amor, su atención por ti no le quita ni un poco de atención hacia mí.
¿Qué me hizo pensar en este sentido es la lección bíblica de esta semana sobre el tema: "Cristo Jesús", y muchos versos que se refieren a "la gracia". La palabra gracia en el Nuevo Testamento es siempre una traducción de la palabra griega, "charis" (χαρις) "Charis" aparece 156 veces en el Nuevo Testamento Griego. Y se traduce generalmente como "gracia", pero también algunas veces como un favor, benevolencia, bienestar.
Es así como nos internamos en la Lección Bíblica de esta semana, vamos a empezar con un completo sentido del infinito favor de Dios, que todo lo abarca y Su amor derramado sobre todos nosotros imparcial y universalmente. Y la evidencia del amor de nuestro Padre es el don inestimable de su "hijo unigénito", Cristo Jesús.
Cristo Jesús fue amado claramente por el Padre sin medida, pero lo que aprendemos en la lección de esta semana es que la vida de Jesús se vivió de manera que también nosotros sepamos que la gracia del Amor de Dios es infinita. Sí, Jesús fue el favorito de Dios, pero a través de esta lección vamos a aprender que tú lo eres también.

JB Phillips traduce: "Para nosotros, la mayor demostración del amor de Dios por nosotros ha sido el envío de su Hijo único al mundo para darnos vida a través de él."
Y la Nueva Biblia Inglés (ORC): "Porque Dios es amor, y su amor fue revelado a nosotros en esto, que envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para traernos la vida."
Lectura Alternada: Juan: 1 1-5,9-14,16
En relación a la frase "en el principio" del Génesis 1. Mary Baker Eddy comenta sobre ella en Ciencia y Salud, página 502:24 "El infinito no tiene principio, esa palabra, principio, se emplea para significar lo único, -. Es decir, la eterna realidad y la unidad de Dios y el hombre, incluso el universo. "Por lo tanto, es interesante pensar en el Verbo, la Luz, y la Vida que vemos en el nacimiento y vida de Jesús, como una real evidencia de la única Vida, Dios, Espíritu. Y el hombre "unigénito" es la evidencia del hombre único, creado por Dios. The New English Bible lo dice así: "Cuando todo comenzó, el Verbo ya era. El Verbo habitó con Dios, y lo que Dios era, el Verbo era. El Verbo, entonces, era con Dios desde el principio, y a través de él todas las cosas fueron hechas, ninguna cosa fue creada sin él".
Juan 1:4 el Mensaje: "Lo que existió era Vida, y la Vida era la luz de la existencia"
Me encanta la manera en que la Biblia Amplificada (AB) reconoce la gracia que se mostró en la vida de Jesús y fue derramada sobre nosotros: "Porque de su plenitud (abundancia) tomamos todos [todos tenían una parte y todos eran satisfechos] una gracia tras otra, bendición espiritual sobre bendición espiritual e incluso favor sobre favor y regalos [colmados de ellos] sobre regalos. "
Vamos a ocuparnos en desenvolver nuestro regalo!
Sección 1 - La gracia en el nacimiento de Jesús
A menudo somos conmovidos por la gracia de una joven adolescente, María, cuando ella abre su corazón y su vida al hecho de que Dios es Padre. Su concepción de Emmanuel, literalmente, cumplió la promesa de "Dios con nosotros". Pero ¿qué decir a cerca la naturaleza de José compatible con María y aceptando ésa gracia? Me encanta como la New Living Translation interpreta estos versos:.. (B-2) "Así es como Jesús, el Mesías nació de su madre, María, ella estaba comprometida para casarse con José, pero antes de que el matrimonio se llevara a cabo, cuando aún era una virgen, quedó embarazada a través del poder del Espíritu Santo. José, su prometido, era un hombre bueno y no quería desacreditarla en público, por lo que decidió romper el compromiso calladamente. Como él consideraba ésta posibilidad, un ángel del Señor se le apareció en sueños. "José, hijo de David", dijo el ángel-, no temas recibir a María tu esposa. Pues el niño que en ella hay, fue concebido por el Espíritu Santo. "
Tenemos aquí el ejemplo perfecto de cómo la fe, la confianza, el amor y el más alto sentido de la gracia puede levantar a una familia de lo que al principio parecía un motivo de vergüenza, a la gracia salvadora del amor de Dios para todos. Debido a sus decisiones y acciones el mundo no sólo llegó a conocer el mejor hombre que jamás haya caminado sobre el planeta, sino también al Cristo eterno, el cual él vivía tan plenamente. Ver (S-1, S-2)
¿No es posible que sea una lección para aquellos que luchan con la creencia de la deshonra o el deshonor, y hasta se ven tentados a juzgar o incluso matar a sus seres queridos? Tal vez la cultura local o la demanda de las tradiciones, parece permitir tales acciones. Pero la gracia ofrecida por Dios, el compasivo amor puede alzarnos más allá de los límites de la creencia mortal e introducirnos en la comprensión de "Emmanuel o Dios con nosotros".
Sección 2 - Jesús, un maestro exigente
(B-5, B-6) Aquí tenemos interesantes ejemplos de Jesús y sus discípulos enseñando y predicando con poder. Pero, ¿Notaste que tanto en Marco 1 y Marcos 6, las indicaciones de Jesús, el Maestro de maestros, reconocen la necesidad de salir del bullicio y orar? "Salió, y se fue a un lugar desierto, y allí oraba", y "Venid vosotros aparte al lugar desierto, y descansad un poco:" Tuvo lugar una poderosa enseñanza, con una preparación tranquila. Inevitablemente, los resultados fueron una sesión de enseñanza que resultó en poderosas demostraciones. Me recuerda a la Sra. Eddy citando a Horacio Bonar en Escritos Misceláneos, página 338,
"Tú mismo tendrás que ser veraz,
Si la verdad quieres enseñar;
Tu propia alma tendrá que rebosar,
Si al alma de otro quieres llegar!
Se requiere un corazón desbordante
si los labios lo han de expresar.
Piensa sinceramente, y tus pensamientos
Al mundo hambriento han de alimentar;
Habla sinceramente, y cada palabra tuya
Simiente fructífera será;
Vive sinceramente, y tu vida

Las citas Ciencia y Salud de esta sección son una explicación paso a paso de los métodos de enseñanza de Jesús. Dos factores se destacan, Jesús enseñó por la demostración, y necesitaba de otros para que también la demostración sea la base de su enseñanza.
Sección 3 - Para el Cristo sanador, no hay intocables.
En (B-9) leemos de la mujer enferma de 12 años con una pérdida crónica de sangre. De acuerdo con la ley judía ella habría sido vista como sucia e intocable. No se le hubiera permitido incluso estar en esa multitud. Y definitivamente no se le hubiera permitido tocar a Jesús. También hay un aspecto en ésta historia respecto a nuestras relaciones con los demás. En su condición no se les habría permitido tener contacto con nadie, excepto con su familia. Ella acudió a Jesús (en el centro de una gran multitud) y le tocó. Jesús sintió ese toque y lo reconoció. Él no se avergonzó por ello, no tenía miedo por ello, como resultado, de hecho, él preguntó: "¿Quién me ha tocado?" Si jesús hubiera tenido miedo de lo que la gente pensaba no habría pronunciado palabra alguna. En su lugar, el formuló una pregunta y la mujer, sabiendo lo que había pasado le declaró toda la verdad. ¿Qué dijo Jesús?: "Hija, tu fe te ha salvado; Vete en paz y queda sana de tu azote" No hubo condena ritual. No hubo ningún intento de ocultar el terrible suceso. Y el Maestro incluso habló a la mujer como a alguien de la familia, "hija" [- y afirmó que lo que la sanó fue su fe, no la túnica.]
Hace unos meses miré desde mi ventana de la cocina vi a un hombre desaliñado y obviamente borracho, ir a la panadería de enfrente. Era un hombre negro muy alto, que no es común que se vea aquí, en Dresde (Alemania). Sabía que la mujer de panadería estaba sola y por eso decidí ir hasta allí. Cuando llegué el hombre estaba saliendo con un trozo de pastel que había comprado. Yo estaba realmente orando para saber cual era la acción apropiada. Esto me llevó a decir: "Oye hermano, seguro que hablas Inglés." Él respondió con una gran sonrisa, "Claro que sí." Entonces hablé con él preguntándole si yo podía ser de alguna ayuda, ¿tendrás un lugar para quedarte, y todo lo que necesitas? "Gracias hombre, yo estoy bien." Por la apariencia externa eso, parecía estar lejos de la realidad. Pero luego fui guiado a decir, "Bueno, sé que tú sabes que eres el amado hijo de Dios y eres bendecido." Y luego el me envolvió en el abrazo más grande que puedas imaginar, entonces él me tomó la cabeza entre las manos y comenzó a besar mis dos ojos. Luego se limitó a decir: "Dios te bendiga", y se alejó tan recto como una flecha, y sin tambalear. Me di cuenta de que algunos trabajadores en la calle estaban muy sorprendidos. Así que seguí orando sabiendo que el hombre de Dios es siempre amado, recto, completo y libre" y no hay condición humana que sea inmunda, contagiosa o peligrosa. Además, la señora de la panadería afirmó que el hombre era absolutamente respetuoso y estaba agradecido por el pastel que le había vendido. Las apariencias no pueden ser engañosas en la presencia de Cristo. Y esta sección lo pone de manifiesto, (S-7), "Los cristianos están bajo órdenes tan directas ahora, como lo estaban entonces, de asemejarse a Cristo, de tener el espíritu de Cristo, de seguir el ejemplo de Cristo, y de sanar al enfermos así como al pecador."
Sección 4 - Las obligaciones encuentran las ideas, incluidos los impuestos.
Me encanta esta sección. En la cita B-12, leemos acerca de algunos recaudadores de impuestos haciendo a Pedro una pregunta difícil. "¿Vuestro Maestro no paga tributos?" Ahora bien, estos se referían al "impuesto del templo" y no el tributo al César. Cada hombre adulto tenía que pagar un monto correspondiente a medio ciclo para cumplir con el impuesto. Y Jesús sabía lo que había ocurrido sin que Pedro se lo dijera. ("Jesús lo previno...") Entonces Jesús habló a Pedro acerca de los impuestos y luego le dio instrucciones para ir al mar, pescar un pez, y encontrar una pieza de dinero. Él lo hizo. La cantidad de dinero que encontró fue el impuesto exacto para dos personas. Ahora recuerda, Pedro era un pescador. Él tenía una caña de pescar. Sabía cómo pescar. Y él sabía a dónde ir.
Tenemos que recordar que en las citas (B-13) 2 Cor. 09:08 y (S-10) 494:10
La gracia del amor divino siempre satisfacer nuestras necesidades. Y responde a la necesidad justo donde estamos y con las herramientas y el talento que tenemos en la mano. Podemos declarar, "Tengo exactamente lo que necesito ahora mismo." ["A través de Dios tengo todo lo que necesito y lo sé.]
He aquí un ejemplo. Hace unos años había estado orando por mis dos hermanos. En ése momento ambos estaban en busca de trabajo. Mi hermano mayor, Gary, vivía conmigo. Y mi otro hermano, Scott, vivía con nuestra madre.
En ese momento yo todavía estaba viviendo en Florida, no muy lejos de la playa y me encantaba surfear. Kenny, uno de mis amigos surfistas llamó y me preguntó si quería ir a San Agustín para una sesión de surf por la tarde. Yo acepté, e invité a mi hermano mayor, Gary, a unirse a nosotros. Él no estaba trabajando en ese momento, pero era un maestro de escuela de la Ciencia Cristiana y estaba orando, y a la escucha de la guía de Dios. Decidió unirse a nosotros y empacó su red de pesca. Como Kenny y yo estábamos surfeando, Gary tiró su red, después de poco éxito se dio por vencido. Dejó de lanzar la red y en su lugar comenzó a orar. Después de que él había estado orando por un rato miró por entre las olas y vio un pez muy grande en las olas. Decidió tratar de alcanzarlo con su red y por eso se metió en la medida que pudo, y con todas sus fuerzas lanzo la red. Resultó ser un negro y enorme pez. (Uno de los mejores pescados para comer). Gary sacó el pez fuera del agua, sobre la arena y se preguntaba si el pescado sería comestible, tal vez había estado muerto mucho tiempo? En ese momento un camión se detuvo y un hombre se acercó y dijo: "Hombre que pez!!!" Debe haber quedado atrapados en las aguas poco profundas y se ahogó cuando entró arena en sus agallas." Gary le preguntó: "¿Cómo lo sabes?" "Bueno, señor, Yo soy veterinario y puedo decirlo por el color de sus agallas" Cargamos el pescado en el Jeep y Kenny comenzó el regreso a casa. Kenny decidió que necesitaba cargar un poco de gas y entró a una estación. Allí Gary vendió el pescado a una persona por $ 35. El pagó por el combustible de Kenny y todavía tenía $ 20 en el bolsillo. Había salido de casa sin un centavo.
Cuando llegamos a casa el teléfono estaba sonando. Yo respondí, era mi otro hermano, Scott. (También maestro de clase de Ciencia Cristiana) casi no podía esperar para contarle lo que había sucedido. Pero él no me dejó contar la historia porque quería compartir algo que le había sucedido a él. Así que me callé y escuché. Scott había estado manejando a través del Bosque Nacional de Ocala en el coche de nuestra madre. Mientras conducía se dio cuenta de un pedazo de papel volando un poco por delante de él. Siguió conduciendo cuando de repente le vino el pensamiento que el papel en realidad parecía dinero. Se volvió con su auto y condujo de nuevo hasta donde él había visto el papel en el aire. El camino era una carretera de dos carriles rodeada de pinos, palmeras y con hierba alta. Scott aparco el coche, y comenzó a caminar cuando miró a sus pies y vio un billete de $ 50. Apenas podía contener el regocijo. Subió al coche y se alejó muy feliz. Y entonces se le ocurrió que había habido dos hojas de papel. Se dirigió de nuevo al mismo lugar y comenzó a caminar alrededor otra vez. Y se encontró con otro billete de $ 50. Él había salido de casa con los bolsillos vacíos y ahora mira lo que tenía.
Yo escuchaba con asombro como Scott me contó su historia. Y mientras escuchaba sabía que más allá de toda duda, los dos acontecimientos se habían producido de forma simultánea. Yo sabía que el amor había encontrado las necesidades de mis hermanos. Y con absoluta certeza sabía que Dios siempre satisface sus necesidades.
Como dice en la cita de S-11, "Existe hoy día el peligro de repetir la ofensa de los Judíos, por limitar el Santo de Israel y preguntar:" ¿Podrá Dios poner mesa en el desierto? "¿Qué no puede hacer Dios?"
Sección 5 - El ejemplo de Jesús, desafiando la ley material.
(B-14) "Después de estas cosas ..." la frase introductoria aquí no muestra el paso del tiempo que probablemente tuvo lugar entre Juan 5 y Juan 6.
Y el puente entre Juan 6:1 hasta Juan 6:16 incluyó un pequeño evento interesante, la alimentación de los cinco mil. Al final de este evento en Juan 6:15 dice: "Jesús, sabiendo que tenían la intención de venir y hacerle rey por la fuerza, se retiró otra vez al monte." Así que antes de los acontecimientos que lo condujeron a caminar sobre el agua, y traer el buque "inmediatamente" a la costa (transporte instantáneo del barco y los discípulos), Jesús estaba solo, probablemente orando, ¿verdad?
Recuerda que en la Sección 2, (B-5) Marcos 1:35, Jesús también "fue a un lugar solitario, y oró." ¿Y qué pasó después de este retiro y oración?....... Increíbles acontecimientos que superaron las leyes físicas de la materia, tales como la gravedad. La gente quería hacer de él un rey, para cumplir con el interés nacional de de la restauración del trono de Salomón (ver Juan 6:15). ¿Pero estaba Jesús destinado a reinar sobre un poder político o sobre toda las leyes materiales? La restauración de un reino espiritual, donde el hombre reclama el total dominio otorgado por Dios, ésa era la misión de nuestro Maestro. La restauración del "Emmanuel, o Dios con nosotros" que se ve en la demostración, no sólo en palabras.
La cita (S-14) a (S-18) explora las posibilidades y capacidades del hombre que fue creado a la "semejanza de Dios", dominando la idea infinita. (S-15) Si Jesús buscó un "lugar solitario" y oró, ¿No es un buen indicador para que nosotros valoremos la calma y el "tiempo de oración."?
Una experiencia que tuve, me dio una pequeña pista respecto de esto, después de haber pasado toda una noche en un hospital, orando en la sala de espera. Al día siguiente volví a casa con la esperanza de ponerme al día con algo de descanso. Y en lugar de ello, tuve el día más ocupado de mi práctica de curación. No hubo tiempo para ponerme al día en el sueño, hubo demasiadas llamadas pidiendo ayuda, y muchas curaciones instantáneas.
Es este refugio, la oración, la verdad infinita de Cristo, que en realidad nos permite a todos y a cada uno el derecho de elevarnos por encima de las llamadas leyes materiales, y abrazar la curación de Cristo.
Sección 6 - ¿Quién es este hombre, Jesús?
La correcta identificación de una persona es importante. Recuerdo una tarde, durante los días de mi universidad. Yo caminaba a casa después de clases y pasé por la pista de atletismo de la Universidad de la Florida. Miré hacia arriba y vi un corredor. Tengo que decir que nunca he visto nada como él. Observando a éste hombre en acción, fue como ver el guepardo más hermoso, ¿sabes una de esas películas de National Geographic de los animales, poderoso, elegante, en pleno apogeo. Era imponente. Yo no podía quitar mis ojos de él. Le pregunté a otro atleta: "¿Sabes quién es ese hombre?" "Sí hombre, está de visita es oriundo de África, es un récord mundial!" Y realmente lo parecía !!.
(B-15) Jesús preguntó: "¿Quién dicen los hombres que es el Hijo del Hombre?" Los discípulos respondieron según los informes comunes de la gente, por lo que repitió, "¿Quién decís que soy yo?" Pedro respondió: "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente."
Sección 7 - La disposición de seguir llenos de gracia a nuestro Maestro
(B-19) Juan 1:16, La Biblia Amplificada "Porque de su plenitud (abundancia) tomamos todos [todos tenían una parte y todos estaban satisfechos] una gracia tras otra, bendición espiritual sobre bendición espiritual e incluso favor sobre favor y regalos [colmados de ellos] sobre regalos. "
Un amigo mío, David Pickersgill de Leeds, Inglaterra estaba hablando conmigo sobre la lección de esta semana y compartió su definición favorita de "gracia" - "la influencia divina en el corazón, y su reflejo en la vida"
¡Qué maravilloso saber que todos hemos recibido, todos tenemos una cuota, y todos somos abastecidos con la gracia de Dios. Y lo que es un glorioso ejemplo de la gracia se nos ha dado en la vida de nuestro Salvador, Cristo Jesús. El origen divino de la vida de Jesús y de la influencia divina continuamente vista en su vida son sin duda es el mayor de los regalos. Pero la pregunta podría ser, ¿qué vamos a hacer con ese regalo? ¿Va a ser como el regalo de bodas que se encuentra en su caja original en un armario nunca abierto durante 20 años? ¿O vas a desenvolver el regalo, utilizarlo a diario, y permitir que tu gratitud por ése don se exprese en su uso?
La Sra. Eddy pide, (S-22) "¿Cuando se aprenderán los seguidores de Jesús a emularlo en todo y a imitar sus obras poderosas?"
Muchas veces me he encontrado que es la práctica de algo lo que más importa. Después de una carrera de natación competitiva, he tenido la alegría de hacer algo de coaching. Un par de veces fui entrenador de los nadadores más jóvenes en un competitivo equipo. Y he observado algo que ha sido una lección perdurable. Hay a menudo algunos nadadores con mucho talento que ganaron carrera tras la carrera con poco esfuerzo. Y luego estaban los nadadores con poco de talento natural, pero con determinación y lograron mucho más éxito. Es como la cita que estaba enmarcada en la oficina de mi madre:
"Nada en el mundo puede tomar el lugar de la persistencia:
El talento no podrá, nada en el mundo es más común que hombres fracasados con talento.
El genio no podrá, el genio sin premio es una constante.
La educación no podrá, el mundo está lleno de negligentes educados.
La persistencia y la determinación son omnipotentes ".

¿Juega Dios a favoritos?
¿Alguna vez has oído a alguien decir, "No voy a jugar a los favoritos aquí . Esto, por supuesto, significa que la justicia, un trato equitativo, y la imparcialidad van a ser las normas que aplica. Promete no tratar mejor uno que otro, todos recibirán un trato igual y justo. Nos gusta saber que todos van a ser tratados de la misma manera por un maestro.
Pero ¿qué pasa con Dios? ¿Dios juega a favoritos?
Una idea interesante se me ocurrió, y podría parecer un poco desconcertante, y un poco impactante al principio. Esta idea es que Dios en verdad juega a favoritos. Pero, un pensamiento acerca de esto es que ese favoritismo es equitativo, imparcial, desbordante, y generosamente otorgado a todas las ideas en la creación. En otras palabras, un favoritismo que se ha derramado desde el infinito, eterno e imparcial Amor divino! Por lo tanto, tus necesidades individuales reciben toda la atención de una fuente inagotable de gracia, el favor de Dios hacia ti, pero como Dios es infinito Amor, su atención por ti no le quita ni un poco de atención hacia mí.
¿Qué me hizo pensar en este sentido es la lección bíblica de esta semana sobre el tema: "Cristo Jesús", y muchos versos que se refieren a "la gracia". La palabra gracia en el Nuevo Testamento es siempre una traducción de la palabra griega, "charis" (χαρις) "Charis" aparece 156 veces en el Nuevo Testamento Griego. Y se traduce generalmente como "gracia", pero también algunas veces como un favor, benevolencia, bienestar.
Es así como nos internamos en la Lección Bíblica de esta semana, vamos a empezar con un completo sentido del infinito favor de Dios, que todo lo abarca y Su amor derramado sobre todos nosotros imparcial y universalmente. Y la evidencia del amor de nuestro Padre es el don inestimable de su "hijo unigénito", Cristo Jesús.
Cristo Jesús fue amado claramente por el Padre sin medida, pero lo que aprendemos en la lección de esta semana es que la vida de Jesús se vivió de manera que también nosotros sepamos que la gracia del Amor de Dios es infinita. Sí, Jesús fue el favorito de Dios, pero a través de esta lección vamos a aprender que tú lo eres también.
Texto Áureo: I Juan 4:09
JB Phillips traduce: "Para nosotros, la mayor demostración del amor de Dios por nosotros ha sido el envío de su Hijo único al mundo para darnos vida a través de él."
Y la Nueva Biblia Inglés (ORC): "Porque Dios es amor, y su amor fue revelado a nosotros en esto, que envió a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para traernos la vida."

En relación a la frase "en el principio" del Génesis 1. Mary Baker Eddy comenta sobre ella en Ciencia y Salud, página 502:24 "El infinito no tiene principio, esa palabra, principio, se emplea para significar lo único, -. Es decir, la eterna realidad y la unidad de Dios y el hombre, incluso el universo. "Por lo tanto, es interesante pensar en el Verbo, la Luz, y la Vida que vemos en el nacimiento y vida de Jesús, como una real evidencia de la única Vida, Dios, Espíritu. Y el hombre "unigénito" es la evidencia del hombre único, creado por Dios. The New English Bible lo dice así: "Cuando todo comenzó, el Verbo ya era. El Verbo habitó con Dios, y lo que Dios era, el Verbo era. El Verbo, entonces, era con Dios desde el principio, y a través de él todas las cosas fueron hechas, ninguna cosa fue creada sin él".
Juan 1:4 el Mensaje: "Lo que existió era Vida, y la Vida era la luz de la existencia"
Me encanta la manera en que la Biblia Amplificada (AB) reconoce la gracia que se mostró en la vida de Jesús y fue derramada sobre nosotros: "Porque de su plenitud (abundancia) tomamos todos [todos tenían una parte y todos eran satisfechos] una gracia tras otra, bendición espiritual sobre bendición espiritual e incluso favor sobre favor y regalos [colmados de ellos] sobre regalos. "
Vamos a ocuparnos en desenvolver nuestro regalo!

(B-5, B-6) Aquí tenemos interesantes ejemplos de Jesús y sus discípulos enseñando y predicando con poder. Pero, ¿Notaste que tanto en Marco 1 y Marcos 6, las indicaciones de Jesús, el Maestro de maestros, reconocen la necesidad de salir del bullicio y orar? "Salió, y se fue a un lugar desierto, y allí oraba", y "Venid vosotros aparte al lugar desierto, y descansad un poco:" Tuvo lugar una poderosa enseñanza, con una preparación tranquila. Inevitablemente, los resultados fueron una sesión de enseñanza que resultó en poderosas demostraciones. Me recuerda a la Sra. Eddy citando a Horacio Bonar en Escritos Misceláneos, página 338,
"Tú mismo tendrás que ser veraz,
Si la verdad quieres enseñar;
Tu propia alma tendrá que rebosar,
Si al alma de otro quieres llegar!
Se requiere un corazón desbordante
si los labios lo han de expresar.
Piensa sinceramente, y tus pensamientos
Al mundo hambriento han de alimentar;
Habla sinceramente, y cada palabra tuya
Simiente fructífera será;
Vive sinceramente, y tu vida

Las citas Ciencia y Salud de esta sección son una explicación paso a paso de los métodos de enseñanza de Jesús. Dos factores se destacan, Jesús enseñó por la demostración, y necesitaba de otros para que también la demostración sea la base de su enseñanza.
Sección 3 - Para el Cristo sanador, no hay intocables.
En (B-9) leemos de la mujer enferma de 12 años con una pérdida crónica de sangre. De acuerdo con la ley judía ella habría sido vista como sucia e intocable. No se le hubiera permitido incluso estar en esa multitud. Y definitivamente no se le hubiera permitido tocar a Jesús. También hay un aspecto en ésta historia respecto a nuestras relaciones con los demás. En su condición no se les habría permitido tener contacto con nadie, excepto con su familia. Ella acudió a Jesús (en el centro de una gran multitud) y le tocó. Jesús sintió ese toque y lo reconoció. Él no se avergonzó por ello, no tenía miedo por ello, como resultado, de hecho, él preguntó: "¿Quién me ha tocado?" Si jesús hubiera tenido miedo de lo que la gente pensaba no habría pronunciado palabra alguna. En su lugar, el formuló una pregunta y la mujer, sabiendo lo que había pasado le declaró toda la verdad. ¿Qué dijo Jesús?: "Hija, tu fe te ha salvado; Vete en paz y queda sana de tu azote" No hubo condena ritual. No hubo ningún intento de ocultar el terrible suceso. Y el Maestro incluso habló a la mujer como a alguien de la familia, "hija" [- y afirmó que lo que la sanó fue su fe, no la túnica.]
Hace unos meses miré desde mi ventana de la cocina vi a un hombre desaliñado y obviamente borracho, ir a la panadería de enfrente. Era un hombre negro muy alto, que no es común que se vea aquí, en Dresde (Alemania). Sabía que la mujer de panadería estaba sola y por eso decidí ir hasta allí. Cuando llegué el hombre estaba saliendo con un trozo de pastel que había comprado. Yo estaba realmente orando para saber cual era la acción apropiada. Esto me llevó a decir: "Oye hermano, seguro que hablas Inglés." Él respondió con una gran sonrisa, "Claro que sí." Entonces hablé con él preguntándole si yo podía ser de alguna ayuda, ¿tendrás un lugar para quedarte, y todo lo que necesitas? "Gracias hombre, yo estoy bien." Por la apariencia externa eso, parecía estar lejos de la realidad. Pero luego fui guiado a decir, "Bueno, sé que tú sabes que eres el amado hijo de Dios y eres bendecido." Y luego el me envolvió en el abrazo más grande que puedas imaginar, entonces él me tomó la cabeza entre las manos y comenzó a besar mis dos ojos. Luego se limitó a decir: "Dios te bendiga", y se alejó tan recto como una flecha, y sin tambalear. Me di cuenta de que algunos trabajadores en la calle estaban muy sorprendidos. Así que seguí orando sabiendo que el hombre de Dios es siempre amado, recto, completo y libre" y no hay condición humana que sea inmunda, contagiosa o peligrosa. Además, la señora de la panadería afirmó que el hombre era absolutamente respetuoso y estaba agradecido por el pastel que le había vendido. Las apariencias no pueden ser engañosas en la presencia de Cristo. Y esta sección lo pone de manifiesto, (S-7), "Los cristianos están bajo órdenes tan directas ahora, como lo estaban entonces, de asemejarse a Cristo, de tener el espíritu de Cristo, de seguir el ejemplo de Cristo, y de sanar al enfermos así como al pecador."
Sección 4 - Las obligaciones encuentran las ideas, incluidos los impuestos.
Me encanta esta sección. En la cita B-12, leemos acerca de algunos recaudadores de impuestos haciendo a Pedro una pregunta difícil. "¿Vuestro Maestro no paga tributos?" Ahora bien, estos se referían al "impuesto del templo" y no el tributo al César. Cada hombre adulto tenía que pagar un monto correspondiente a medio ciclo para cumplir con el impuesto. Y Jesús sabía lo que había ocurrido sin que Pedro se lo dijera. ("Jesús lo previno...") Entonces Jesús habló a Pedro acerca de los impuestos y luego le dio instrucciones para ir al mar, pescar un pez, y encontrar una pieza de dinero. Él lo hizo. La cantidad de dinero que encontró fue el impuesto exacto para dos personas. Ahora recuerda, Pedro era un pescador. Él tenía una caña de pescar. Sabía cómo pescar. Y él sabía a dónde ir.
Tenemos que recordar que en las citas (B-13) 2 Cor. 09:08 y (S-10) 494:10
La gracia del amor divino siempre satisfacer nuestras necesidades. Y responde a la necesidad justo donde estamos y con las herramientas y el talento que tenemos en la mano. Podemos declarar, "Tengo exactamente lo que necesito ahora mismo." ["A través de Dios tengo todo lo que necesito y lo sé.]
He aquí un ejemplo. Hace unos años había estado orando por mis dos hermanos. En ése momento ambos estaban en busca de trabajo. Mi hermano mayor, Gary, vivía conmigo. Y mi otro hermano, Scott, vivía con nuestra madre.
En ese momento yo todavía estaba viviendo en Florida, no muy lejos de la playa y me encantaba surfear. Kenny, uno de mis amigos surfistas llamó y me preguntó si quería ir a San Agustín para una sesión de surf por la tarde. Yo acepté, e invité a mi hermano mayor, Gary, a unirse a nosotros. Él no estaba trabajando en ese momento, pero era un maestro de escuela de la Ciencia Cristiana y estaba orando, y a la escucha de la guía de Dios. Decidió unirse a nosotros y empacó su red de pesca. Como Kenny y yo estábamos surfeando, Gary tiró su red, después de poco éxito se dio por vencido. Dejó de lanzar la red y en su lugar comenzó a orar. Después de que él había estado orando por un rato miró por entre las olas y vio un pez muy grande en las olas. Decidió tratar de alcanzarlo con su red y por eso se metió en la medida que pudo, y con todas sus fuerzas lanzo la red. Resultó ser un negro y enorme pez. (Uno de los mejores pescados para comer). Gary sacó el pez fuera del agua, sobre la arena y se preguntaba si el pescado sería comestible, tal vez había estado muerto mucho tiempo? En ese momento un camión se detuvo y un hombre se acercó y dijo: "Hombre que pez!!!" Debe haber quedado atrapados en las aguas poco profundas y se ahogó cuando entró arena en sus agallas." Gary le preguntó: "¿Cómo lo sabes?" "Bueno, señor, Yo soy veterinario y puedo decirlo por el color de sus agallas" Cargamos el pescado en el Jeep y Kenny comenzó el regreso a casa. Kenny decidió que necesitaba cargar un poco de gas y entró a una estación. Allí Gary vendió el pescado a una persona por $ 35. El pagó por el combustible de Kenny y todavía tenía $ 20 en el bolsillo. Había salido de casa sin un centavo.
Cuando llegamos a casa el teléfono estaba sonando. Yo respondí, era mi otro hermano, Scott. (También maestro de clase de Ciencia Cristiana) casi no podía esperar para contarle lo que había sucedido. Pero él no me dejó contar la historia porque quería compartir algo que le había sucedido a él. Así que me callé y escuché. Scott había estado manejando a través del Bosque Nacional de Ocala en el coche de nuestra madre. Mientras conducía se dio cuenta de un pedazo de papel volando un poco por delante de él. Siguió conduciendo cuando de repente le vino el pensamiento que el papel en realidad parecía dinero. Se volvió con su auto y condujo de nuevo hasta donde él había visto el papel en el aire. El camino era una carretera de dos carriles rodeada de pinos, palmeras y con hierba alta. Scott aparco el coche, y comenzó a caminar cuando miró a sus pies y vio un billete de $ 50. Apenas podía contener el regocijo. Subió al coche y se alejó muy feliz. Y entonces se le ocurrió que había habido dos hojas de papel. Se dirigió de nuevo al mismo lugar y comenzó a caminar alrededor otra vez. Y se encontró con otro billete de $ 50. Él había salido de casa con los bolsillos vacíos y ahora mira lo que tenía.
Yo escuchaba con asombro como Scott me contó su historia. Y mientras escuchaba sabía que más allá de toda duda, los dos acontecimientos se habían producido de forma simultánea. Yo sabía que el amor había encontrado las necesidades de mis hermanos. Y con absoluta certeza sabía que Dios siempre satisface sus necesidades.
Como dice en la cita de S-11, "Existe hoy día el peligro de repetir la ofensa de los Judíos, por limitar el Santo de Israel y preguntar:" ¿Podrá Dios poner mesa en el desierto? "¿Qué no puede hacer Dios?"
Sección 5 - El ejemplo de Jesús, desafiando la ley material.
(B-14) "Después de estas cosas ..." la frase introductoria aquí no muestra el paso del tiempo que probablemente tuvo lugar entre Juan 5 y Juan 6.
Y el puente entre Juan 6:1 hasta Juan 6:16 incluyó un pequeño evento interesante, la alimentación de los cinco mil. Al final de este evento en Juan 6:15 dice: "Jesús, sabiendo que tenían la intención de venir y hacerle rey por la fuerza, se retiró otra vez al monte." Así que antes de los acontecimientos que lo condujeron a caminar sobre el agua, y traer el buque "inmediatamente" a la costa (transporte instantáneo del barco y los discípulos), Jesús estaba solo, probablemente orando, ¿verdad?
Recuerda que en la Sección 2, (B-5) Marcos 1:35, Jesús también "fue a un lugar solitario, y oró." ¿Y qué pasó después de este retiro y oración?....... Increíbles acontecimientos que superaron las leyes físicas de la materia, tales como la gravedad. La gente quería hacer de él un rey, para cumplir con el interés nacional de de la restauración del trono de Salomón (ver Juan 6:15). ¿Pero estaba Jesús destinado a reinar sobre un poder político o sobre toda las leyes materiales? La restauración de un reino espiritual, donde el hombre reclama el total dominio otorgado por Dios, ésa era la misión de nuestro Maestro. La restauración del "Emmanuel, o Dios con nosotros" que se ve en la demostración, no sólo en palabras.
La cita (S-14) a (S-18) explora las posibilidades y capacidades del hombre que fue creado a la "semejanza de Dios", dominando la idea infinita. (S-15) Si Jesús buscó un "lugar solitario" y oró, ¿No es un buen indicador para que nosotros valoremos la calma y el "tiempo de oración."?
Una experiencia que tuve, me dio una pequeña pista respecto de esto, después de haber pasado toda una noche en un hospital, orando en la sala de espera. Al día siguiente volví a casa con la esperanza de ponerme al día con algo de descanso. Y en lugar de ello, tuve el día más ocupado de mi práctica de curación. No hubo tiempo para ponerme al día en el sueño, hubo demasiadas llamadas pidiendo ayuda, y muchas curaciones instantáneas.
Es este refugio, la oración, la verdad infinita de Cristo, que en realidad nos permite a todos y a cada uno el derecho de elevarnos por encima de las llamadas leyes materiales, y abrazar la curación de Cristo.
Sección 6 - ¿Quién es este hombre, Jesús?
La correcta identificación de una persona es importante. Recuerdo una tarde, durante los días de mi universidad. Yo caminaba a casa después de clases y pasé por la pista de atletismo de la Universidad de la Florida. Miré hacia arriba y vi un corredor. Tengo que decir que nunca he visto nada como él. Observando a éste hombre en acción, fue como ver el guepardo más hermoso, ¿sabes una de esas películas de National Geographic de los animales, poderoso, elegante, en pleno apogeo. Era imponente. Yo no podía quitar mis ojos de él. Le pregunté a otro atleta: "¿Sabes quién es ese hombre?" "Sí hombre, está de visita es oriundo de África, es un récord mundial!" Y realmente lo parecía !!.
(B-15) Jesús preguntó: "¿Quién dicen los hombres que es el Hijo del Hombre?" Los discípulos respondieron según los informes comunes de la gente, por lo que repitió, "¿Quién decís que soy yo?" Pedro respondió: "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente."
Sección 7 - La disposición de seguir llenos de gracia a nuestro Maestro
(B-19) Juan 1:16, La Biblia Amplificada "Porque de su plenitud (abundancia) tomamos todos [todos tenían una parte y todos estaban satisfechos] una gracia tras otra, bendición espiritual sobre bendición espiritual e incluso favor sobre favor y regalos [colmados de ellos] sobre regalos. "
Un amigo mío, David Pickersgill de Leeds, Inglaterra estaba hablando conmigo sobre la lección de esta semana y compartió su definición favorita de "gracia" - "la influencia divina en el corazón, y su reflejo en la vida"

Pero la pregunta podría ser, ¿qué vamos a hacer con ese regalo? ¿Va a ser como el regalo de bodas que se encuentra en su caja original en un armario nunca abierto durante 20 años? ¿O vas a desenvolver el regalo, utilizarlo a diario, y permitir que tu gratitud por ése don se exprese en su uso?
La Sra. Eddy pide, (S-22) "¿Cuando se aprenderán los seguidores de Jesús a emularlo en todo y a imitar sus obras poderosas?"
Muchas veces me he encontrado que es la práctica de algo lo que más importa. Después de una carrera de natación competitiva, he tenido la alegría de hacer algo de coaching. Un par de veces fui entrenador de los nadadores más jóvenes en un competitivo equipo. Y he observado algo que ha sido una lección perdurable. Hay a menudo algunos nadadores con mucho talento que ganaron carrera tras la carrera con poco esfuerzo. Y luego estaban los nadadores con poco de talento natural, pero con determinación y lograron mucho más éxito. Es como la cita que estaba enmarcada en la oficina de mi madre:
"Nada en el mundo puede tomar el lugar de la persistencia:
El talento no podrá, nada en el mundo es más común que hombres fracasados con talento.
El genio no podrá, el genio sin premio es una constante.

Nach der Uebersetzung von J.B. Phillips "der groesste Beweis fuer Gottes Liebe fuer uns ist, dass Er Seinen einzigen Sohn auf die Erde sandte, damit wir Leben durch Ihn erhielten" und nach der Neuen Englischen Bibel = New English Bible (NEB) "denn Gott ist Liebe, Seine Liebe zu uns wurde uns dadurch offenbart, dass er Seinen einzigen Sohn auf die Erde sandte um uns Leben zu bringen.

Der Ausdruck "Am Anfang" ist der gleiche wie der im 1.Buch Moses. In Bezug darauf besagt Mrs. Eddy in S&H (Science and Health = Wissenschaft und Gesundheit, S. 502:24 "der Unendliche hat keinen Anfang. Dieser Ausdruck bedeutet nur, naemlich die ewige Wahrheit und Einheit Gottes des Menschen, einschliesslich des Universums." Also, betrachte Wort, Licht, und Leben in Jesu Geburt und Leben als eigentlichen Beweis des einzigen wirklichen Lebens Gottes, des Geistes, der "einzige von Gott erzeugte". Entsprechend der NEB "Als Alles begann existierte das Wort bereits, mit Gott, und das was Gott war, war das Wort. Also, das Wort war mit Gott am Anfang, und durch Ihn begann das Leben. Nichts wurde ohne Ihn erschaffen".
Johannes 1:4, der MESSAGE entsprechend (Botschaft) "Was begann war das Leben. Leben war das Licht , ihm gemaess zu leben". Nach AB (Amplified Bible = Erweiterte Bibel) heisst es "aus Seiner Ueberfuelle der Gnade empfingen wir alle [jeder bekam einen Teil] fortwaehrende Gnade und geistige Segnungen, sowie Gaben [im Uebermass". Kommt und lasst uns das Geschenk auspacken!
ABSCHNITT NR. 1 GNADE DURCH JESU GEBURT.
Wir sind von Marias Gnade beruehrt,ihre Bereitwilligkeit zu erkennen, dass Gott der Vater ist. Ihre Empfaengnis von Emanuel loest das Versprechen "Gott mit uns" ein. Und dann Josephs Vestaendnis? Entsprechend der Neuen Lebenden Uebersetzung = New Living Translation (NEB) Spruch (B-2) "Auf diese Weise wurde Jesus, der Messias geboren. Seine Mutter Maria war mit Joseph verlobt. Vor der Hochzeit , sie war noch eine Jungfrau, war sie schwanger durch die Macht des Heiligen Geistes. Joseph wollte sie gegen die Kritik der Oeffentlichkeit beschuetzen und wollte die Verlobung aufloesen, aber ein Engel sagte ihm "nimm Maria und heirate sie". Das Kind in ihr war vom Heiligen Geist empfangen. All das spricht von Glaube, Vertrauen, Liebe und Gnade, beschuetzte diese Familie von Ungnade und zeigt Gottes rettende Gnade. Und durch vorhergehende richtige Entscheidungen empfing die Menschheit den besten Menschen der Welt und den ewigen Christus und sein volles Leben (S-1 und S-2). Diese Geschichte ist eine Lehre fuer die Menschen mit einer Annahme von etwas Unehrenhaften, das durch Gottes Gnade und Liebe geheilt werden kann. Manchmal diktiert die Gesellschaft in der wir leben andere zu verdammen in solchen Situationen, aber Gottes barmherzige Gnade und Liebe kann uns ueber sterbliche Annahmen hinwegheben und uns helfen den Begriff "Emanuel" Gott mit uns zu verstehen.
ABSCHNITT NR. 2 JESUS, EIN LEHRER DER VIEL VON DIR ERWARTET
(B-5 und 6) zeigen Beispiele von Jesu und seiner Juenger Lehrmethoden und Predigten, nicht Macht! Hast du bemerkt, dass in Markus 1 und 6 Hinweise sind in denen Jesus, der Meister, die Notwendigkeit zu beten erkennt und ebenfalls aus der verwirrenden Umgebung herauszukommen. "Er suchte einen stillen Platz und betete" und ... geniesst die Stille fuer eine Weile. Deren Lehren waren sehr eindringlich und forderten vorher ruhige Vorbereitung. Gewoehnlich gab es dann sehr eindrucksvolle Zeugnisse. Es erinnert mich an das Gedicht von Horatius Bonar In VERSCHIEDENEN SCHRIFTEN (MISCELLANEOUS WRITINGS)Mrs. Eddy, Seite 338. ""Du musst wahrhaftig sein wenn du Wahrheit lehren willst, die Seele ueberfliessen (lassen) wenn du die Seele anderer beruehren willst: ..." Be True = sei wahrhaftig (Hymns = Lieder of Faith and Hope (Glauben und Hoffnung (1867). Die Sprueche vom Textbuch hier erklaeren Jesu Lehrmethoden Schritt fuer Schritt.
ABSCHNITT NR. 3 DER HEILENDE CHRISTUS, KEINE UNBERUEHRBAREN
(B-9) Hier hoeren wir von der Frau die 12 Jahre Blutlauf hatte und dem juedischen Gesetz nach als unsauber und unberuehrbar betrachtet wurde. Auch durfte sie nicht mit andern zusammenkommen, oder etwa Jesus beruehren. Sie durfte nur mit ihrer Familie Verbindung haben. Sie beruehrte Jesus inmitten einer Gruppe von Menschen. Das machte ihn nicht verlegen und er fragte sogar "Wer hat mich beruehrt?" Er haette sie ja auch ignorieren koennen, aber er sagte zu ihr "Tochter, dein Glauben hat dich geheilt, geh in Frieden und sei frei von deiner Plage." KEINE Verdammung (Kritik) Er sprach zu ihr sogar als ob sie ein Teil seiner Familie waere mit der Anredeform "Tochter".[Und er bestaetigte, dass was sie heilte war ihr Glaube, nicht sein Talar.] Vo rein paar Monaten sah ich einen verwahrlosten und scheinbar betrunkenen Mann, einen Schwarzen, in eine Baeckerei gehen. Ich folgte ihm und betete darueber was ich ihm wohl sagen koennte. So sagte ich zu ihm" Bruder, du sprichst bestimmt englisch?" "Ja! " sagte er. Ich bot ihm Hilfe an, in irgend einer Art (dachte ich). Und er sagte "ich bin alright (OK). "Dann sagte ich "Ich weiss, dass du Gottes geliebter Sohn bist und dass du gesegnet bist." Er umarmte mich und sagte "Moege Gott dich segnen ". Ich fuhr fort zu beten und wusste dass Gottes Kind immer geliebt, aufrecht, ganz und frei ist, nicht unsauber, gefaehrlich. In Christi Gegenwart truegt der Augenschein nicht. Sieh Spruch Nr. (S-7) "Heute stehen die Christen unter dem ebenso direkten Befehl wie damals Christusaehnlich zu sein , den Christusgeist zu haben , dem Christusbeispiel zu folgen und die Kranken sowohl wie die Suender zu heilen."
ABSCHNITT NR. 4 VERPFLICHTUNGEN MIT IDEEN BEGLEICHEN , SOGAR STEUERN
Hier hoeren wir von Steuernsammlern die Petrus raffinierte Fragen stellten, ob Jesus wohl Steuern bezahlte (Tempelsteuern) und nicht die fuer Cesar. Um der Verpflichtung, Steuern, gerecht zu werden, sagte Jesus zu Petrus,"geh, fang einen Fisch, und du wirst eine Muenze in seinem Maul finden"" den Betrag der genuegend fuer uns beide ist.Bedenkt Sprueche (B-13 2.. Korinther 9:18 und (S-19) S.949:10. Gottes Gnade hilft uns in jeder Not. Und wir haben das Noetige fuer diese Probleme und koennen behaupten "Ich habe genau so viel wie ich es im Moment benoetige" [durch Gott hab ich Alles und ich weiss das auch]. Als Beispiel dafuer: Vor ein paar Jahren, ich wohnte noch in Florida, und mein Bruder, ohne Arbeit, wohnte mit mir. Wir beschlossen mit Kenney surfing zu gehen. Wir nahmen unsere Fischnetze mit , vielleicht benoetigten wir sie . Wir warfen das Netz ueber einen grossen Fisch ,der schien ein drum zu sein. Wir nahmen Ihn mit und hatten unsere Bedenken, ob man ihn essen koennte, denn er war tot. Dann begegneten wir einen Tierarzt am Strand der feststellen konnte wie lange der Fisch schon tot war. Auf dem Heimweg, der Fisch auf dem Autodach oben drauf mussten wir an einer Tankstelle tanken. Der Tankwart guckte den Fisch und kaufte ihn fuer $35.- Wir bekamen $15.00 und die $20.00 waren fuer das Benzin. Man findet manchmal unerwartete Quellen mit den noetigen Mitteln unsere Schulden zu begleichen, wie oben erwaehnt. Gottes Liebe versorgte meinen Bruder und ich weiss mit Bestimmtheit , dass Gott uns immer hilft. Wie erwaehnt in Spruch (S-11) "Heute liegt die Gefahr nahe, dass sich das Aergernis der Juden in der Begrenzung des Heiligen in Israel und in der Frage wiederholt: "Ja, Gott sollte wohl koennen einen Tisch bereiten in der Wueste?" Was
kann den Gott nicht tun?"
ABSCHNITT NR. 5 JESU BEISPIEL DEM MATERIELLEN GESETZ ZU TROTZEN
(B-14) spricht von seiner Fahrt vom Galilaeischen Meer und was nicht klar ist wie viel spaeter wir von der Speisung der fuenftausend hoeren (Johannes 6:1:1 - 6:16).Es besagt am Ende von Johannes 6:15 "Als Jesus wusste dass sie in grossen Mengen kommen wuerden und ihn durch Zwang zum Koenig machen wollten, zog er sich zurueck in die Berge" Ehe er ueber das Wasser lief und das Boot sofort ans Ufer brachte, war Jesus allein, wahrscheinlich betete er. In Abschnitt 2 (B-5) Markus 1:35, ebenfalls,`"suchte er einen ruhigen Platz und betete". Nach seinem Zurueckzug und Gebet ueberwandt er unglaubliche Naturgesetze , sowie das der Schwerkraft.. Die Menschen wollten ihm zum Koenig machen um Salomons Thron wiederherzustellen (Johannes 6:15 ). War das aber seine Aufgabe ein politisches Koenigreich zu regieren oder materielle Gesetze? Seine Aufgabe war das geistige Reich mit Gottes Herrschaft ueber Allem wieder herzustellen "Emanuel oder Gott mit uns", nicht nur mit Worten. (S-14 - S-18) spricht von dem in Gottes Ebenbild geschaffenem Menschen, all den Moeglichkeiten und Faehigkeiten, und durch die ewige Idee regiert.
ABSCHNITT NR. 6 WER IST DIESER Mann, JESUS?
Als ich ich die University of Florida besuchte , beobachtete ich einen aussergewoehnlichen Laeufer der mich an einen Gebhart erinnerte, einfach inspirierend in seiner Grazie und Schoenheit. Es stellte sich heraus, dass er auf Besuch von Afrika war und einen Weltrekord hatte. In Spruch (B-15) fragte Jesus "Wer sagen die Menschen, dass ich, der Sohn der Menschen, bin?" Die Juenger stimmten mit dem als allgemein angenommenen und er wiederholte "Wer sagt ihr dass ich bin?" Peter antwortete" Du bist Christus, der Sohn des Lebenden Gottes."
ABSCHNITT NR. 7 BEREITSCHAFT DEM MEISTER GNADENVOLL ZU FOLGEN
(B-19) Johannes 1:16 AMPLIFIED BIBLE (Erweiterte Bibel). Von all Seiner Fuelle erhielten wir [jeder hatte einen Teil] ,eine Gnade nach der anderen, geistige Segnungen nach den anderen, den wahren Geist nach dem anderen, und Gaben auf Gaben."
Ein gutter Freund, David Pickersgill aus Leeds, England, sprach mit mir ueber diese Bibelstunde und teilte mit mir seine Lieblingserklaerung von "Gnade" "der goettliche Einfluss aufs Herz und seine Widerspiegelung iim Leben.."
Es ist wunderbar, dass wir wissen, dass wir alle Gnade empfingen, hatten ein Teil davon und sind durch Gottes Gnade davon versorgt. Was fuer ein wunderbares Beispiel der Gnade im Leben unseres Erloesers, Jesus Christus. Die goettliche Quelle , Jesu Leben und der goettliche Einfluss fortwaehrend in seinem Leben und offensichtlich, das sind die groessten Gaben. Aber was tun wir damit. Vielleicht sind sie wie ein Hochzeitsgeschenk das fuer zwanzig Jahre nie ausgepackt wurde. Oder packst du es aus, gebrauchst es taeglich ; und drueckst deine Dannkbarkeit aus durch stetigen Gebrauch? Nach Mrs. Eddy (S-22) "Wann werden Jesu vorgegebenen Nachfolger lernen ihn in jeder Weise nachzuahmen und seine maechtigen Werke zu wiederholen?"
Es ist die Uebung die das wichtigste ist. Als ich Schwimmtrainer war bemerkte ich neben den ausgezeichneten Schwimmern die weniger Begabten. Letztere zeigten so viel Ausdauer und waren so intensiv dabei, ,dass sie weitaus mehr Erfolg hatten. Ich denke an meiner Mutter Motto an der Wand in ihrem Buero "Nichts in der Welt ist wichtiger als Ausdauer, Talent? NEIN, nichts in der Welt ist mehr gewoehnlich als Erfolglose mit Talent.Genie? NEIN , Unbelohntes Genie ist wie ein Sprichwort . Gute Schulbildung? NEIN, Die Welt ist voller obdachloser ausgebildeter Leute." AUSDAUER UND ENTSCHLUSSKRAFT allein sind allmaechtig." Calvin Coolidge
Wir alle haben besti;mmt das Geschenk der Gnade im Leben und I;;n der Liebe unseres Erloesers, Jesus Christus erlebt. Mrs. Eddy fragt uns: Wer ist bereit seinen Lehren und Beispiel zu folgen?" (S-23). Wenn wir dem Beispiel unseres Meisters folgen, haben wir bestimmt Erfolg.

Nach der Uebersetzung von J.B. Phillips "der groesste Beweis fuer Gottes Liebe fuer uns ist, dass Er Seinen einzigen Sohn auf die Erde sandte, damit wir Leben durch Ihn erhielten" und nach der Neuen Englischen Bibel = New English Bible (NEB) "denn Gott ist Liebe, Seine Liebe zu uns wurde uns dadurch offenbart, dass er Seinen einzigen Sohn auf die Erde sandte um uns Leben zu bringen.

Der Ausdruck "Am Anfang" ist der gleiche wie der im 1.Buch Moses. In Bezug darauf besagt Mrs. Eddy in S&H (Science and Health = Wissenschaft und Gesundheit, S. 502:24 "der Unendliche hat keinen Anfang. Dieser Ausdruck bedeutet nur, naemlich die ewige Wahrheit und Einheit Gottes des Menschen, einschliesslich des Universums." Also, betrachte Wort, Licht, und Leben in Jesu Geburt und Leben als eigentlichen Beweis des einzigen wirklichen Lebens Gottes, des Geistes, der "einzige von Gott erzeugte". Entsprechend der NEB "Als Alles begann existierte das Wort bereits, mit Gott, und das was Gott war, war das Wort. Also, das Wort war mit Gott am Anfang, und durch Ihn begann das Leben. Nichts wurde ohne Ihn erschaffen".
Johannes 1:4, der MESSAGE entsprechend (Botschaft) "Was begann war das Leben. Leben war das Licht , ihm gemaess zu leben". Nach AB (Amplified Bible = Erweiterte Bibel) heisst es "aus Seiner Ueberfuelle der Gnade empfingen wir alle [jeder bekam einen Teil] fortwaehrende Gnade und geistige Segnungen, sowie Gaben [im Uebermass". Kommt und lasst uns das Geschenk auspacken!
ABSCHNITT NR. 1 GNADE DURCH JESU GEBURT.
Wir sind von Marias Gnade beruehrt,ihre Bereitwilligkeit zu erkennen, dass Gott der Vater ist. Ihre Empfaengnis von Emanuel loest das Versprechen "Gott mit uns" ein. Und dann Josephs Vestaendnis? Entsprechend der Neuen Lebenden Uebersetzung = New Living Translation (NEB) Spruch (B-2) "Auf diese Weise wurde Jesus, der Messias geboren. Seine Mutter Maria war mit Joseph verlobt. Vor der Hochzeit , sie war noch eine Jungfrau, war sie schwanger durch die Macht des Heiligen Geistes. Joseph wollte sie gegen die Kritik der Oeffentlichkeit beschuetzen und wollte die Verlobung aufloesen, aber ein Engel sagte ihm "nimm Maria und heirate sie". Das Kind in ihr war vom Heiligen Geist empfangen. All das spricht von Glaube, Vertrauen, Liebe und Gnade, beschuetzte diese Familie von Ungnade und zeigt Gottes rettende Gnade. Und durch vorhergehende richtige Entscheidungen empfing die Menschheit den besten Menschen der Welt und den ewigen Christus und sein volles Leben (S-1 und S-2). Diese Geschichte ist eine Lehre fuer die Menschen mit einer Annahme von etwas Unehrenhaften, das durch Gottes Gnade und Liebe geheilt werden kann. Manchmal diktiert die Gesellschaft in der wir leben andere zu verdammen in solchen Situationen, aber Gottes barmherzige Gnade und Liebe kann uns ueber sterbliche Annahmen hinwegheben und uns helfen den Begriff "Emanuel" Gott mit uns zu verstehen.
ABSCHNITT NR. 2 JESUS, EIN LEHRER DER VIEL VON DIR ERWARTET
(B-5 und 6) zeigen Beispiele von Jesu und seiner Juenger Lehrmethoden und Predigten, nicht Macht! Hast du bemerkt, dass in Markus 1 und 6 Hinweise sind in denen Jesus, der Meister, die Notwendigkeit zu beten erkennt und ebenfalls aus der verwirrenden Umgebung herauszukommen. "Er suchte einen stillen Platz und betete" und ... geniesst die Stille fuer eine Weile. Deren Lehren waren sehr eindringlich und forderten vorher ruhige Vorbereitung. Gewoehnlich gab es dann sehr eindrucksvolle Zeugnisse. Es erinnert mich an das Gedicht von Horatius Bonar In VERSCHIEDENEN SCHRIFTEN (MISCELLANEOUS WRITINGS)Mrs. Eddy, Seite 338. ""Du musst wahrhaftig sein wenn du Wahrheit lehren willst, die Seele ueberfliessen (lassen) wenn du die Seele anderer beruehren willst: ..." Be True = sei wahrhaftig (Hymns = Lieder of Faith and Hope (Glauben und Hoffnung (1867). Die Sprueche vom Textbuch hier erklaeren Jesu Lehrmethoden Schritt fuer Schritt.
ABSCHNITT NR. 3 DER HEILENDE CHRISTUS, KEINE UNBERUEHRBAREN
(B-9) Hier hoeren wir von der Frau die 12 Jahre Blutlauf hatte und dem juedischen Gesetz nach als unsauber und unberuehrbar betrachtet wurde. Auch durfte sie nicht mit andern zusammenkommen, oder etwa Jesus beruehren. Sie durfte nur mit ihrer Familie Verbindung haben. Sie beruehrte Jesus inmitten einer Gruppe von Menschen. Das machte ihn nicht verlegen und er fragte sogar "Wer hat mich beruehrt?" Er haette sie ja auch ignorieren koennen, aber er sagte zu ihr "Tochter, dein Glauben hat dich geheilt, geh in Frieden und sei frei von deiner Plage." KEINE Verdammung (Kritik) Er sprach zu ihr sogar als ob sie ein Teil seiner Familie waere mit der Anredeform "Tochter".[Und er bestaetigte, dass was sie heilte war ihr Glaube, nicht sein Talar.] Vo rein paar Monaten sah ich einen verwahrlosten und scheinbar betrunkenen Mann, einen Schwarzen, in eine Baeckerei gehen. Ich folgte ihm und betete darueber was ich ihm wohl sagen koennte. So sagte ich zu ihm" Bruder, du sprichst bestimmt englisch?" "Ja! " sagte er. Ich bot ihm Hilfe an, in irgend einer Art (dachte ich). Und er sagte "ich bin alright (OK). "Dann sagte ich "Ich weiss, dass du Gottes geliebter Sohn bist und dass du gesegnet bist." Er umarmte mich und sagte "Moege Gott dich segnen ". Ich fuhr fort zu beten und wusste dass Gottes Kind immer geliebt, aufrecht, ganz und frei ist, nicht unsauber, gefaehrlich. In Christi Gegenwart truegt der Augenschein nicht. Sieh Spruch Nr. (S-7) "Heute stehen die Christen unter dem ebenso direkten Befehl wie damals Christusaehnlich zu sein , den Christusgeist zu haben , dem Christusbeispiel zu folgen und die Kranken sowohl wie die Suender zu heilen."
ABSCHNITT NR. 4 VERPFLICHTUNGEN MIT IDEEN BEGLEICHEN , SOGAR STEUERN
Hier hoeren wir von Steuernsammlern die Petrus raffinierte Fragen stellten, ob Jesus wohl Steuern bezahlte (Tempelsteuern) und nicht die fuer Cesar. Um der Verpflichtung, Steuern, gerecht zu werden, sagte Jesus zu Petrus,"geh, fang einen Fisch, und du wirst eine Muenze in seinem Maul finden"" den Betrag der genuegend fuer uns beide ist.Bedenkt Sprueche (B-13 2.. Korinther 9:18 und (S-19) S.949:10. Gottes Gnade hilft uns in jeder Not. Und wir haben das Noetige fuer diese Probleme und koennen behaupten "Ich habe genau so viel wie ich es im Moment benoetige" [durch Gott hab ich Alles und ich weiss das auch]. Als Beispiel dafuer: Vor ein paar Jahren, ich wohnte noch in Florida, und mein Bruder, ohne Arbeit, wohnte mit mir. Wir beschlossen mit Kenney surfing zu gehen. Wir nahmen unsere Fischnetze mit , vielleicht benoetigten wir sie . Wir warfen das Netz ueber einen grossen Fisch ,der schien ein drum zu sein. Wir nahmen Ihn mit und hatten unsere Bedenken, ob man ihn essen koennte, denn er war tot. Dann begegneten wir einen Tierarzt am Strand der feststellen konnte wie lange der Fisch schon tot war. Would God play favorites?
Have you ever heard someone say, "I will not play favorites here"? And by this they of course mean that fairness, equitable treatment, and impartiality are going to be the rule they apply. They are promising to not treat one better than another, all will receive equal and fair treatment. We like to hear that from a teacher so we know everyone is going to be treated the same, no teacher's pet. But what about God? Would God play favorites?
An interesting idea occurred to me, and it might seem a little disconcerting, a little shocking at first. This idea is that God does play favorites. But, and think about this, this favoritism is equitable, impartial, overflowing, and generously bestowed on every single idea in creation. In other words, a favoritism that is poured forth from infinite, eternal, impartial, divine Love!! So, your individual needs receive all the attention of an infinite source of favor, God's favor towards you, but since God is infinite Love, His attention to you does not take away one tiny bit of favor towards me.
What started me thinking along these lines is our Bible Lesson this week on the subject, "Christ Jesus," and many verses that refer to "grace." The word grace in the New Testament is always a translation of the Greek word, "charis," (χαρις). "Charis" occurs 156 times in the Greek New Testament. And it is usually translated as "grace," but also a few times as favor, benevolence, pleasure, thanks.
So as we dig into our Bible Lesson this week, let's start with a full sense that God's infinite, all-encompassing favor and love is poured forth on all of us impartially and universally. And the evidence of our Father's love is the priceless gift of His "only begotten son", Christ Jesus.
So clearly Christ Jesus was loved of the Father beyond measure, but what we learn in this week's Lesson is that Jesus' life was lived so that we too would know that grace of God's infinite Love. Yes, Jesus may have been God's favorite, but through this Lesson we will learn that you are too.
Golden Text: I John 4:9
J. B. Phillips translates: "To us, the greatest demonstration of God's love for us has been his sending his only Son into the world to give us life through him."
And the New English Bible (NEB): "For God is love; and his love was disclosed to us in this, that he sent his only Son into the world to bring us life. "
Responsive Reading: John :1 1-5,9-14,16
The phrase "in the beginning" is one that is shared with Genesis 1. Mary Baker Eddy comments on this phrase in Science and Health, Page 502:24 "The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only,--that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe." So, it is interesting to think of the Word, the Light, and the Life that we see in Jesus' birth and life, as really evidence of the only Life there is, God, Spirit. And the "only begotten" man is evidence of the only man God makes. The New English Bible puts it this way, "When all things began, the Word already was. The Word dwelt with God, and what God was, the Word was. The Word, then, was with God at the beginning, and through him all things came to be; no single thing was created without him."
John 1:4 from THE MESSAGE: "What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by."
I love the way the Amplified Bible (AB) acknowledges the grace that is shown in Jesus' life and poured forth on us: "For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift." Let's get busy unwrapping our gift!
Section 1 - The grace in Jesus' birth
We often are touched by the grace of a young teenage girl, Mary, as she opens her heart and life to the great fact that God is Father. Her conception of Emmanuel literally fulfilled the promise of "God with us." But what about the compatible nature of Joseph's gracious acceptance? I love how the New Living Translation interprets these verses: (B-2) "This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. 'Joseph, son of David,' the angel said, 'do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.' "
We have the perfect example here of how faith, trust, love, and the highest sense of grace lifted a family from what at first appeared a reason for disgrace, to the saving grace of God's love for all. Because of their choices and actions the world not only got to know the best man that ever walked the globe, but also the eternal Christ that he lived so fully. See (S-1, S-2)
Couldn't that be a lesson to those who while struggling with a belief of disgrace or dishonor are tempted to judge or even kill those they love? Perhaps local culture or tradition demands or seems to allow such actions. But the grace of God's tender, compassionate Love can lift us beyond the limits of mortal belief and into the understanding of "Emmanuel" - "God with us."
Section 2 - Jesus, a demanding teacher
(B-5, B-6) Here we have interesting examples of both Jesus and his disciples teaching and preaching with power. But did you notice that both Mark 1 and Mark 6 include indications of Jesus, the Master teacher, recognizing the need for getting out of the hubbub and praying? "...he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." And "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while:..." Powerful teaching took place, but there was a quiet preparation. And inevitably the results were a teaching session that resounded with powerful demonstrations. It reminds me of Mrs. Eddy quoting Horatius Bonar in Miscellaneous Writings, page 338,
"Thou must be true thyself,
If thou the truth wouldst teach;
Thy soul must overflow, if thou
Another's soul would'st reach!
It needs the overflow of heart
To give the lips full speech.
Think truly, and thy thoughts
Shall the world's famine feed;
Speak truly, and each word of thine
Shall be a fruitful seed;
Live truly, and thy life shall be
A great and noble creed."

The Science and Health citations of this section are a step by step explanation of Jesus' teaching methods. And two factors stand out, Jesus taught by demonstration, and he required others to also let demonstration be the foundation of their teaching.
Section 3 - The healing Christ, no untouchables.
(B-9) We read of the woman sick for 12 years with a chronic loss of blood. According to Jewish law she would have been viewed as unclean and untouchable. She would not have been allowed to even be in that crowd. And she definitely would not be allowed to touch Jesus. There is also an aspect of the story regarding our relations to others. In her condition she would not have been allowed to have contact with anyone but family. As she reached out to Jesus (in the middle of a huge crowd) she touched him. He felt that reaching out and acknowledged it. He was not embarrassed by it, he was not afraid of it, as a matter of fact he asked, "Who touched me?" If he was afraid of what people thought wouldn't he have kept his mouth shut? Instead he asked and the woman knowing what had happened told him all the truth. What did Jesus say, "Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague." There was no ritualistic condemnation. There was no fearful attempt to hide the event. And the Master even spoke to the woman as family, "Daughter" [--and affirm that what healed her was her faith, not his robe].
A few months back I looked from my kitchen window and saw a very disheveled and obviously drunk man go into the bakery across the street. He was a very tall black man, which is not a common scene here in Dresden. I saw the bakery sales woman was alone and so I decided it would be right to go over to the bakery. When I got there the man was just coming out with some cake that he had purchased. As I took in the scene I was really praying as to what was the appropriate action. I was led to say, "Hey brother, I bet you speak English." He replied with a big smile, "I sure do." Then I spoke with him asking if I could be of any help, did he have a place to stay, anything he needed? "No man I'm okay." To outward appearance that seemed to be far from the fact. But then I just said, "Well, I know you know that you are God's beloved son and you are blessed." And then he wrapped me up in the biggest hug you can imagine, then he held my head in his hands and proceeded to kiss both my eyes. Then he simply said, "God bless you," and walked away just as straight as an arrow, no more wobbling. I noticed some workers across the street with their eyes almost bugging out of their heads. So I just kept praying knowing that God's man is always beloved, upright, whole and free and there is no human condition that is unclean, contagious, or dangerous. And to top it all off, the bakery sales lady affirmed that he was absolutely respectful and grateful for the cake she had sold him. Appearances do not have to be deceiving in the presence of the Christ. And this section makes it clear, (S-7), "Christians are under as direct orders now, as they were then, to be Christlike, to possess the Christ-spirit, to follow the Christ-example, and to heal the sick as well as the sinning."
Section 4 - Obligations met with ideas, even taxes.
I love this section. In citation B-12 we read about some tax collectors asking Peter a tricky question, "Doth not your master pay tribute?" Now this concerned the "temple tax" and not tribute to Caesar. It was the standard half a shekel that each adult male was supposed to pay. And Jesus knew what had taken place without Peter even telling him. ("Jesus prevented him...") Then Jesus spoke with Peter some about taxes and then instructed him to go to the sea, catch a fish, and find a piece of money. He did. The amount of money was the exact tax for two. Now remember, Peter was a fisherman. He had a fishing rod handy. He knew how to fish. And he knew where to go.
We have got to remember as in (B-13) 2 Cor. 9:8 and (S-10) Page 494:10 that the grace of divine Love is always meeting our need. And it meets the need right where we are and with the tools and talents we have at hand. We can declare, "I have exactly what I need right now." ["Through God I have everything I need and I know it.]
Here is an example. A few years ago I had been praying for my two brothers. At the time both of them were looking for work. My oldest brother, Gary, lived with me. And my other brother, Scott, lived with our mom.
At that time I was still living in Florida, not too far from the beach and I loved to surf. Kenny, one of my surfing buddies called and asked if I wanted to head over to St. Augustine for an afternoon surf session. I accepted. And I invited my oldest brother, Gary, to join us. He wasn't working at the time, but he was a class-taught Christian Scientist and was praying and listening for God's guidance. He decided to join us and packed his large cast net ( a round fishing net that you throw). As Kenny and I were surfing Gary took a few casts with his net but after little success he gave up. He stopped throwing the net and instead started to pray for our surfing. After he had been praying for a little while he looked out into the surf and saw a very large fish in the breaking waves. He decided to try to reach it with his net and so he waded out as far as he could, and with all his might threw the net. It settled over what turned out to be a huge black drum (one of the best eating fish there is). As Gary pulled the fish out of the water, onto the sand, he was wondering if the fish would be edible, maybe it had been dead too long? Just then a truck pulled up and a fellow walked over, "Man what a fish! You know he must have gotten caught in the shallow water and drowned when he got sand in his gills." Gary asked, "How would you know that?" "Well, sir; I'm a vet (veterinarian) and you can tell by the color of his gills." We loaded the fish onto Kenny's Jeep and began the 30-minute drive back home. Kenny decided he needed to get some gas and pulled into a gas station. While there Gary sold the fish to someone for $35. He paid for Kenny's gas and still had $20 in his pocket. He had left home without a cent.
When we got home the telephone was ringing. I answered; it was my other brother, Scott (also a class-taught Christian Scientist). I could hardly wait to tell him what had happened. He wouldn't let me tell the story because he wanted to share something that had just happened to him. So I shut up and listened. Scott had been driving through the Ocala National Forest in our mom's convertible. As he drove he noticed a piece of paper fly out of a car somewhat ahead of him. He continued driving when all of a sudden the idea came to him that that paper actually looked like money. He turned his car around and drove back to where he had seen the paper in the air. The road was a two-lane highway bordered by pine trees and cabbage palms and with high grass. Scott parked the car, and started to walk around when he looked at his feet and saw a $50 bill. He could hardly contain himself as he picked it up. He got back in the car and pulled away as happy as can be. And then it occurred to him that there had been two pieces of paper. He drove back to the same place and started walking around again. And he found another $50 bill. He had left home with empty pockets and now look what he had.
I listened in awe as Scott told me his story. And as I listened I knew beyond a single doubt that the two events had occurred simultaneously. I knew that Love had met both my brothers' needs. And with absolute certainty I knew that God would always meet their needs.
As it says in citation S-11, "There is today danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: 'Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?' What cannot God do?"
Section 5 - Jesus' example, defying material law.
B-14: "After these things..." - The introductory phrase here does not show the passage of time that probably took place between John 5 and John 6. And the bridge between John 6:1 until John 6:16 included an interesting little event, the feeding of the five thousand. At the end of this event in John 6:15 it says, "Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself" (New International Version). So before the events that led to him walking on water, and bringing the ship "immediately" to shore (instant transport of a boat and the disciples), Jesus was alone, probably praying, right? Remember in Section 2, (B-5) Mark 1:35, that Jesus also "went into a solitary place, and prayed." So what happened after this retreat and prayer? Incredible events overcoming physical laws of matter, such as gravity. The people had wanted to make him a king to fulfill the long-time national interest of the restoration of Solomon's throne (see John 6:15). But was Jesus destined to reign over a political kingdom or to reign over all material law? The restoration of a spiritual kingdom, where man claimed God-given dominion over all was the mission of our Master. The restoration of "Immanuel" or "God with us" seen in demonstration, not just words.
Citations S-14 through S-18 explore the possibilities and abilities of the man who was "God's own likeness," "mastering" the infinite idea (S-15). If even Jesus sought a "solitary place" and prayed, isn't that a good indicator to us of the great value of quiet "prayer time"?
An experience I had that gave me just a little hint of this was after I had spent an entire night in a hospital waiting room in prayer. The next day I returned home in hopes of catching up on some rest. And instead I had the busiest day to that point in my healing practice. There was no time for catching up on sleep, there were too many calls asking for help, and too many quick healings.
It is this retreat in prayer to the infinite truth of the Christ, that actually allows each and every one of us the right to rise above the material so-called laws, and embrace the healing Christ.
Section 6 - Who is this man, Jesus?
The proper identification of someone is important. I remember one afternoon during my university days. I was on my way home after classes and I passed by the running track at the University of Florida. I glanced up and caught site of a runner. I have to say I have never experienced anything quite like that moment. Watching this guy run was like watching the most beautiful cheetah, you know one of those National Geographic films of graceful, powerful animals in full stride. It was awe inspiring, beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off him. Another track athlete happened to walk by and I asked, "Do you know who that guy is?" "Yeah man, he's visiting from Africa, he's a world record holder!" And he sure looked like it.
(B-15) Jesus asked, "Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?" The disciples shared the common reports of the people, so he repeated, "But whom say ye that I am?" Peter answered, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Section 7 - Willingness to gracefully follow our Master
(B-19) John 1:16 in the Amplified Bible: "For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift."
A dear friend, David Pickersgill from Leeds, England was talking with me about this week's lesson and shared his favorite definition of "grace": "The divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life."
How wonderful to know that we have all received, all had a share, and were all supplied with God's grace. And what a glorious example of grace we have been given in the life of our Savior, Christ Jesus. The divine source of Jesus life and the divine influence continually seen in his life are certainly the greatest of gifts. But the question might be, what are we going to do with that gift? Will it be like the wedding gift that sits in its original box in a cabinet never opened for 20 years? Or will you unwrap the gift, use it daily, and let your gratitude for the gift be seen in its use?
Mrs. Eddy asks, "When will Jesus' professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works?" (S-22)
I have often found that it is the practice of something that matters the most. After a mildly successful competitive swimming career, I had the joy of doing some coaching. A couple different times I was coach of the youngest swimmers on a competitive swim team. And I observed something that has been an abiding lesson. There were often some very talented swimmers that won race after race with little effort. And then there were swimmers with just a little bit of natural talent, and a great deal of heart and drive that achieved far more success. Perhaps it is like the quote my mom had framed in her office:
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent...."

Certainly we have all received the gift of grace in the life and the love of our Savior, Christ Jesus. Mrs. Eddy asks us, "Who is ready to follow his teaching and example?" (S-23)
If we follow the example of our Master we are assured of success.

Would God play favorites?
Have you ever heard someone say, "I will not play favorites here"? And by this they of course mean that fairness, equitable treatment, and impartiality are going to be the rule they apply. They are promising to not treat one better than another, all will receive equal and fair treatment. We like to hear that from a teacher so we know everyone is going to be treated the same, no teacher's pet. But what about God? Would God play favorites?
An interesting idea occurred to me, and it might seem a little disconcerting, a little shocking at first. This idea is that God does play favorites. But, and think about this, this favoritism is equitable, impartial, overflowing, and generously bestowed on every single idea in creation. In other words, a favoritism that is poured forth from infinite, eternal, impartial, divine Love!! So, your individual needs receive all the attention of an infinite source of favor, God's favor towards you, but since God is infinite Love, His attention to you does not take away one tiny bit of favor towards me.
What started me thinking along these lines is our Bible Lesson this week on the subject, "Christ Jesus," and many verses that refer to "grace." The word grace in the New Testament is always a translation of the Greek word, "charis," (χαρις). "Charis" occurs 156 times in the Greek New Testament. And it is usually translated as "grace," but also a few times as favor, benevolence, pleasure, thanks.
So as we dig into our Bible Lesson this week, let's start with a full sense that God's infinite, all-encompassing favor and love is poured forth on all of us impartially and universally. And the evidence of our Father's love is the priceless gift of His "only begotten son", Christ Jesus.
So clearly Christ Jesus was loved of the Father beyond measure, but what we learn in this week's Lesson is that Jesus' life was lived so that we too would know that grace of God's infinite Love. Yes, Jesus may have been God's favorite, but through this Lesson we will learn that you are too.
Golden Text: I John 4:9
J. B. Phillips translates: "To us, the greatest demonstration of God's love for us has been his sending his only Son into the world to give us life through him."
And the New English Bible (NEB): "For God is love; and his love was disclosed to us in this, that he sent his only Son into the world to bring us life. "
Responsive Reading: John :1 1-5,9-14,16
The phrase "in the beginning" is one that is shared with Genesis 1. Mary Baker Eddy comments on this phrase in Science and Health, Page 502:24 "The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning is employed to signify the only,--that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe." So, it is interesting to think of the Word, the Light, and the Life that we see in Jesus' birth and life, as really evidence of the only Life there is, God, Spirit. And the "only begotten" man is evidence of the only man God makes. The New English Bible puts it this way, "When all things began, the Word already was. The Word dwelt with God, and what God was, the Word was. The Word, then, was with God at the beginning, and through him all things came to be; no single thing was created without him."
John 1:4 from THE MESSAGE: "What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by."
I love the way the Amplified Bible (AB) acknowledges the grace that is shown in Jesus' life and poured forth on us: "For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift." Let's get busy unwrapping our gift!

He drove back to the same place and started walking around again. And he found another $50 bill. He had left home with empty pockets and now look what he had.
I listened in awe as Scott told me his story. And as I listened I knew beyond a single doubt that the two events had occurred simultaneously. I knew that Love had met both my brothers' needs. And with absolute certainty I knew that God would always meet their needs.
As it says in citation S-11, "There is today danger of repeating the offence of the Jews by limiting the Holy One of Israel and asking: 'Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?' What cannot God do?"
Section 5 - Jesus' example, defying material law.
B-14: "After these things..." - The introductory phrase here does not show the passage of time that probably took place between John 5 and John 6. And the bridge between John 6:1 until John 6:16 included an interesting little event, the feeding of the five thousand. At the end of this event in John 6:15 it says, "Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself" (New International Version). So before the events that led to him walking on water, and bringing the ship "immediately" to shore (instant transport of a boat and the disciples), Jesus was alone, probably praying, right? Remember in Section 2, (B-5) Mark 1:35, that Jesus also "went into a solitary place, and prayed." So what happened after this retreat and prayer? Incredible events overcoming physical laws of matter, such as gravity. The people had wanted to make him a king to fulfill the long-time national interest of the restoration of Solomon's throne (see John 6:15). But was Jesus destined to reign over a political kingdom or to reign over all material law? The restoration of a spiritual kingdom, where man claimed God-given dominion over all was the mission of our Master. The restoration of "Immanuel" or "God with us" seen in demonstration, not just words.
Citations S-14 through S-18 explore the possibilities and abilities of the man who was "God's own likeness," "mastering" the infinite idea (S-15). If even Jesus sought a "solitary place" and prayed, isn't that a good indicator to us of the great value of quiet "prayer time"?
An experience I had that gave me just a little hint of this was after I had spent an entire night in a hospital waiting room in prayer. The next day I returned home in hopes of catching up on some rest. And instead I had the busiest day to that point in my healing practice. There was no time for catching up on sleep, there were too many calls asking for help, and too many quick healings.
It is this retreat in prayer to the infinite truth of the Christ, that actually allows each and every one of us the right to rise above the material so-called laws, and embrace the healing Christ.
Section 6 - Who is this man, Jesus?
The proper identification of someone is important. I remember one afternoon during my university days. I was on my way home after classes and I passed by the running track at the University of Florida. I glanced up and caught site of a runner. I have to say I have never experienced anything quite like that moment. Watching this guy run was like watching the most beautiful cheetah, you know one of those National Geographic films of graceful, powerful animals in full stride. It was awe inspiring, beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off him. Another track athlete happened to walk by and I asked, "Do you know who that guy is?" "Yeah man, he's visiting from Africa, he's a world record holder!" And he sure looked like it.
(B-15) Jesus asked, "Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?" The disciples shared the common reports of the people, so he repeated, "But whom say ye that I am?" Peter answered, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Section 7 - Willingness to gracefully follow our Master
(B-19) John 1:16 in the Amplified Bible: "For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received [all had a share and we were all supplied with] one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift [heaped] upon gift."
A dear friend, David Pickersgill from Leeds, England was talking with me about this week's lesson and shared his favorite definition of "grace": "The divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life."
How wonderful to know that we have all received, all had a share, and were all supplied with God's grace. And what a glorious example of grace we have been given in the life of our Savior, Christ Jesus. The divine source of Jesus life and the divine influence continually seen in his life are certainly the greatest of gifts. But the question might be, what are we going to do with that gift? Will it be like the wedding gift that sits in its original box in a cabinet never opened for 20 years? Or will you unwrap the gift, use it daily, and let your gratitude for the gift be seen in its use?
Mrs. Eddy asks, "When will Jesus' professed followers learn to emulate him in all his ways and to imitate his mighty works?" (S-22)
I have often found that it is the practice of something that matters the most. After a mildly successful competitive swimming career, I had the joy of doing some coaching. A couple different times I was coach of the youngest swimmers on a competitive swim team. And I observed something that has been an abiding lesson. There were often some very talented swimmers that won race after race with little effort. And then there were swimmers with just a little bit of natural talent, and a great deal of heart and drive that achieved far more success. Perhaps it is like the quote my mom had framed in her office:
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent...."

Certainly we have all received the gift of grace in the life and the love of our Savior, Christ Jesus. Mrs. Eddy asks us, "Who is ready to follow his teaching and example?" (S-23)
If we follow the example of our Master we are assured of success.
