What an absolute joy to have the President of the Mother Church, Marta Greenwood, C.S.B. visit with us in Dresden. We had a great group of eager seekers share the time with Martha. Christian Scientists from Chemnitz and Zwickau joined us in our Saturday afternoon conversation. Martha fascinated to hear stories of how Christian Science was practiced in East German times. She was touched by the courage and steadfastness of Christian Scientists who lived through that period. And she shared generously from her own experience and inspiration.
Marta then joined us in the Sunday School as a guest teacher. My boys Noah and Johann had a delightful time discussing the concept of following the light, just like a sunflower. And she loved our rousing hymns accompanied by Paul Ashley on guitar and Noah Stewart on violin.

ReplyDeleteI was a frequent visitor to the GDR in the 70,s and 80's until I was finally banned from returning there. I met with a couple of Pastors in Dresden by way of a Family that I knew,and was invited to attend their church as a guest.Christian Science was spoken of warmly and a gift Scienth and Health accepted too if I remember correctly.Friends of mine were abruptly removed from Dresden one evening.The lady friend had a copy of Science and Health with her at the GDR border.This was taken from her.A reverse action if ever there was one.I often wonder what the GDR border guard did with this copy.
